🇧🇷 Flávio Bolsonaro, the defeated right-wing candidate in Brazil’s presidential election, has arrived in the United States despite a travel ban imposed by a Brazilian Supreme Court judge, according to people briefed on the matter who spoke to FT.
Bolsonaro, who is under investigation for corruption and money laundering, arrived in Florida on Tuesday and met his brother Eduardo, who is already living in self-imposed exile in the US.
His departure comes just days after President Lula won re-election with 51.8% of the vote against Bolsonaro’s 48.2%.
🇧🇷 The US State Department will grant visas to defeated presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro and his family, a senior official told the Associated Press, as the Brazilian senator reportedly heads to the US after losing Sunday's runoff to Lula da Silva.
"The State Department will issue visas to Flávio Bolsonaro and his family and allow them entry into the United States," the official said.
Allies of the Bolsonaro family told Folha de S.Paulo that the Trump administration is aware of Flávio's trip and is expected to grant him political asylum. They said he could land in Miami or Dallas within hours. He reportedly traveled with his wife, Fernanda, and two daughters.
The senator faces two criminal investigations at Brazil's Supreme Court alleging corruption, money laundering and foreign exchange evasion. He denies wrongdoing in both. Winning the presidency would have given him immunity from prosecution for crimes committed before taking office. Instead, he loses the special legal protection of his Senate seat when his term ends on Jan. 31, 2027.
On Monday, Bolsonaro posted a video on Instagram saying police had served him a summons to surrender his passport as he left the home of his father, Jair Bolsonaro. The former president is serving a 27-year sentence under house arrest for attempting a coup after losing the 2022 election to Lula.

Among many reasons as to why Eric's death has affected me so much is the fact that he was a person of color, taking on enormous roles in a field that generally has not passed the torch of legacy animated characters to POC voices actors. The idea of a Filipino man being the next voice of Bugs Bunny was such a huge huge step in the right direction for seeing talent in places that were often overlooked. His presence inspired so many young voice actors from minority groups to step into the field and bat with the big leagues.
