97.3% of HSE third graders passed IREAD! That's our highest rate in six years and the best among Indiana districts testing 600+ students. Three HSE elementary schools reached 100%, and all 13 scored at least 90%.

Indiana has ~$4 billion in reserves and 31k kids on a child care waitlist. We cut pre-K from 6,000 seats to 2,500. A $1 billion endowment would throw off ~$41M a year — almost exactly what it'd take to fix that. Forever. We do it for roads. Why not kids?

Many of my Republican colleagues champion “merit” - meeting basic standards for a job.
The Surgeon General MUST be a member of the USPHS Commissioned Corps. To serve as a physician in the Corps, you MUST hold an active medical license.
I -and every prior SG- was held to that standard.
If the administration lowers (or creates a back door around) those standards, and the Senate confirms Casey Means (who has let her license go inactive and didn't complete residency), they undermine every argument they've made about merit, standards, and opposing “DEI” shortcuts. 🤷🏽♂️
As a former U.S. Surgeon General who held an active medical license and practiced medicine while in the role (at Walter Reed and aboard the USS Comfort) it is incomprehensible that the Senate is even considering a nominee for this role who lacks any active license and has never practiced unsupervised. 🤯
