Every governor in every state should say yes to this opportunity.
Great piece by @SenatorTimScott, "Through these tax credits, doors that were once closed are open, with the potential to affect millions of families and students. More than 91% of students who are either currently enrolled or are eligible to enroll in a K-12 school are capable of receiving these scholarships, according to school choice advocacy group American Federation for Children (@SchoolChoiceNow). One decision can change the course of an entire life."

What Education Freedom Tax Credit implementation actions should states, scholarship granting organizations (SGOs), and donors take between now and the end of the year?
Ashling Preston with @SchoolChoiceNow says:
▪️ Governors must opt in by 1/1/27 so students in their states can receive scholarships next year. The Treasury Department's temporary regulations clarify "exactly what the states need to do to opt in."
▪️Governors' offices should establish an EFTC point person and start identifying SGOs. The deadline for states to submit SGO lists to Treasury is 2/15/27.
▪️ With Treasury's proposed rule answering a lot of operational questions, it is time for SGOs to metabolize their responsibilities and build them into their business practices.
▪️ Taxpayers can start identifying where they want to donate.
▪️ Everyone can go to regulations.gov to submit comments before the December 1 deadline.

Ryan Cantrell (@RyankCantrell) chief state strategy officer at the @SchoolChoiceNow, told The Center Square that school choice programs put education dollars in the hands of parents and make them the decision makers.
“There really isn’t a better form of accountability than a parent being able to say, ‘This school is not working for my child. I am going to take those dollars and I’m gonna go elsewhere with them,' ” Cantrell said

Soon, thanks to the courage of Governor Kathy Hochul, school choice is coming to New York for the first time. As Governor Hochul noted, unlocking the philanthropic support in the EFTC can bring millions of additional dollars to New York students and parents, and we celebrate alongside those families as we await formal opt-in.
