Instead of spending over R20 million on service providers to help us maintain municipal facilities, we are investing in building internal capacity. The Amabutho Expanded Public Works Programme forms part of Tshwane’s broader effort of building a skilled workforce.
This team has been trained by the City through the Tshwane Leadership and Management Academy (TLMA). We recently saw the graduation of 85 artisans, from TLMA, who will also join the City’s ranks.

Today, we proudly welcomed 23 Amabutho Expanded Public Works Programme Artisans. These young professionals are skilled plumbers, welders and electricians. Their inclusion within Tshwane’s regional operations will help strengthen our capacity to respond to maintenance requirements at municipal facilities.
We have over 400 facilities across our 7 regions that need to be properly maintained on a regular basis. This team will help augment our existing staff capacity to meet this demand.
