In physical trading card games, the first print run of a set tends to separate from everything that follows. The difference is supply, and that’s been lost in digital TCGs. How it typically goes: 1. New game launches 2. The publisher prints conservatively, because nobody knows whether the game will find an audience 3. Most of that first run gets opened, played with, damaged, or thrown away, because at the time it is simply a product rather than a collectible 4. If the game succeeds, later print runs are larger and are bought by people who already know the game matters 5. The first run was consumed. The later runs were preserved The result is that first editions become scarce because they existed before anyone was paying attention. Some examples: A 1999 Pokémon Base Set 1st Edition booster box retailed for somewhere around $100 to $120. Sealed examples have since sold in ranges reported from roughly $10,000 to over $250,000 depending on condition and auction. A 1993 Magic Alpha booster box cost around $88 at retail. Sealed Alpha packs now reportedly trade in the $8,000 to $12,000 range. Those outcomes took decades and depended on both games becoming enormous. They are not a formula. What is portable from them is the structure. First print runs are consumed before the audience arrives and everything after that is produced for one that already exists. Origins Alpha Edition is built to be distinguishable on purpose. Every Alpha card will carry an Alpha tag on the card face. Alpha booster boxes and cases will only be available through the Kickstarter, and once that window closes, Origins will not produce more. All of it will be tradable via Steam day 1. That creates a defined supply. What collectors do with a limited edition is determined by collectors, not by the company that printed it. And that’s how it should be.

Would you collect digital cards? Experiencing @Altered_TCG's digital market proved how amazing it is to trade and sell without shipping delays. Digital collecting is the future, and @origins_tcg alt-arts look so stunning they could easily become absolute addictions. Thoughts?

Heartbreaking news for the Yu-Gi-Oh! community 💔 I recently learned the devastating news that fellow Yu-Gi-Oh! content creator Alex Cimo has passed away after a courageous battle with Stage IV colon cancer. For many of us, Alex wasn't just another YugiTuber. He was a pillar of the Yu-Gi-Oh! community. A creator whose passion, positivity, and love for the game touched hundreds of thousands of players around the world. It's hard to put into words the impact one person can have on a community, but Alex's influence will continue to be felt for years to come. My thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched. Rest in peace, Alex. Thank you for everything! 🕊️

As you all saw, Spiritforged preorders went fast today. We know it was a frustrating experience for a lot of you. Overall, we saw two major issues: first, even with ~50 percent more product than Origins, we still didn’t have enough to meet demand. (1/9)

The #Riftbound Best-Of Metal Cards prizes might be some of the best rewards across all TCGs! Several have been confirmed sold, with the lowest sales at $15K USD each for Lux & Darius 🔥 Meanwhile, more popular Legends like Ahri & Jinx have sold for $40K & $30K, respectively 👀
