Go to any "selective" prestigious university, and you'll find the same thing. Cultural dead zone. Disgusting boba and ramen and pho everywhere. No late night coffee spots, no scene. Just dead eyed resume builders and spies jabbering in Mandarin
This deserted street is at the center of Boston University, which is supposed to have about 40 thousand students. Most are nowhere to be found.
The students you do see all look completely miserable. Everyone is foreign- not just in origin but in the world they inhabit. Virtually, she is far away- China, Valhalla, the moon, It wouldn’t matter. it’s not the phone that transports her, it’s her head that’s in the clouds. And she is all of us.
Decades ago, this part of campus had the best parties. Now, unfriendly strivers in fantasy worlds. A Tower of Babel, and the split is more than superficially linguistic

I knew a guy that went to prison and only had a flip phone when he went in, got out of prison and got an iPhone 13. Never used an “app.”
Within two days he figured it all out enough to where he was having sex with women he met on the phone before even finding a job.
Another buddy of mine hasn’t gotten laid in 10 years on the outside the entire time while working a high paying office job.
I think about this a lot.
