OpenAI CEO Sam Altman: "I don't even know a dramatic enough word to use… models can find bugs that are outside of the normal threat model of what we think a hacker can do… hardware-level, insane stuff… I no longer think we're gonna be able to just patch all the bugs." It's over.

Security called me at 6:12 AM today. "Patch every PHP server immediately." I asked what happened. "Two critical vulnerabilities. Remote code execution. No authentication required." Cool. How many PHP servers do we have? According to inventory: 12 According to reality: Nobody knows. We found one running WordPress. Three running old internal tools. One under someone's desk. Two inside vendor appliances. A forgotten employee directory from 2016. And a server named: PHP-OLD-DO-NOT-TOUCH Naturally, that one runs payroll exports. Then we found a PHP 5.6 box. I asked who owned it. The documentation said: BRIAN. Brian left in 2019. We called Brian. He said: "Oh wow, that's still running?" Excellent. By 8 AM, leadership joined the incident call. CEO: "Can hackers actually get in?" Security: "Potentially yes." CEO: "Without a password?" Security: "Yes." CEO: "Then why do WE need passwords?" Not the lesson. Finance asked if we could wait until the weekend to patch because downtime affects revenue. Security explained that the alternative was letting strangers execute code on our servers. Finance asked for a cost comparison. At 9:17, someone suggested temporarily taking the vulnerable websites offline. Marketing refused. "Our campaign is live." So for the next hour, the company officially decided maintaining a landing page for 20% off webinar registration was more important than preventing remote server takeover. We finally patched everything we could find. Then our scanner discovered another PHP server. Hostname: TEMP-PHP-2014 Uptime: 4,512 days. Nobody knows what it does. Nobody owns it. Nobody can shut it down. But every time we block network access, the warehouse stops printing shipping labels. Security has classified it as critical infrastructure. It is running PHP 5.4. The vulnerability has existed longer than half our employees. The emergency patch took four hours. Finding out what PHP actually runs took eleven. The internet isn't held together with code. It's held together with servers everyone is afraid to turn off.

This is voter intimidation, plain and simple. Don't let anyone tell you this is about election security. It's about scaring eligible Americans from exercising their right to vote, and it’s not going to work.

Back before 2008, a few savvy investors realised the bubble was about to burst, and purchased credit default swaps that would pay out when it did. Today, there's a surge in CDS trading again - this time, linked to the debt of the big tech companies. graceblakeley.substack.com/p…

The data they used to proclaim the so-called “GOLDEN AGE of America” was massively off. This is not just a mistake. This is an insane miscalculation. We have reason to suspect they were cooking the books.
When first reported, 2025’s jobs reports added up to 1.2 million new jobs. After revisions, the economy added just 116,000 — 90% less.

Alex Gibney on Elon Musk: “I do think the space thing was the little kid looking up at the stars, but ultimately it becomes another con. Next year we’re not gonna be on Mars and we’re not gonna be on Mars in 10 years, we’re not gonna be on Mars in 50 years. It’s just bullshit”

🚨 This is concerning! Billions in risky data center debt are reportedly being repackaged and sold to pension funds, retirement funds, and university endowments. Sounds familiar? This is eerily similar to what happened before the 2008 financial crisis, when risky mortgages were bundled into complex financial products and sold to investors. The big concern? If the AI boom slows down or data centers fail to generate expected returns, the losses could eventually hit ordinary people’s retirement savings. AI may be the next big revolution, but the way it’s being financed deserves serious scrutiny. Different bubble, similar warning signs.

DO NOT LEAVE THE VOTING BOOTH UNTIL YOU ARE SURE THE MACHINE REGISTERED YOUR 'DEMOCRAT' VOTE. Many people are reporting they voted DEMOCRAT and it clicked back to REPUBLICAN. A voter says it took 4 times before it stayed on DEMOCRAT. The fix is in! spotlightpa.org/news/2025/10…

There is a very disturbing trend being seen in early voting. Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Ohio are reporting difficulties getting the machines to accept democratic votes. The machines change them back to Republican unless the voter persists, pressing several times to get the correct vote to go through. Check your machine, check to see that it accepted the correct vote. Make sure your voice counts.

Anthropic will be very surprised to learn that the US government can’t direct a private company to make or not make particular decisions.
Replying to @lrozen
Rubio: “The important point is we cannot direct a private company as to the decisions they make or not make.  What I can tell you with certainty is the President of the United States nor anyone in our system ever requested that any changes to that system be made, and that’s what we said repeatedly.”

This. Understand that, if Elon Musk truly ordered the slowdown of Starshield, a private corporation, SpaceX, acting at the behest of its CEO, effectively dictated aspects of another country's defense operations by restricting a critical service on which its military depends. This seriously compromises the reliability and credibility of American defense companies and certainly makes SpaceX deeply suspect as a defense contractor. The question remains whether the ultimate order came from the White House (as suggested by a separate Reuters report) or whether Musk acted independently. It is clear that this entire episode needs to be investigated, and I strongly urge Congress to return from recess. The matter is too urgent to wait until after November 3. If the WSJ reporting is accurate, this is yet another sordid episode in this administration's record. Should the next administration be Democratic, Elon Musk must be investigated and, if misconduct is established, held accountable. The reliability and trustworthiness of both Musk and SpaceX are now very much in question. Elon Musk ordered the slowdown of a version of SpaceX’s Starlink that Ukraine has relied on in its war against Russia, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing U.S. officials and people familiar with the matter. Musk, SpaceX’s founder and CEO, last week “capped the speeds at which Ukrainian hardware could stay connected to the satellite-based network,” the Journal reported. The decision left some Ukrainian drones virtually inoperable, according to the newspaper. More details: cnb.cx/4i9zcuq
