funny how people in power can change laws overnight when it suits them but claim they can't “legislate away” the “handout” culture. political patronage isn't a legal necessity. it's a political choice. they could end it whenever they want. them being afraid of the possible backlash is another story.

After MPs’ salaries, the next petition should address former presidents’ allowances and benefits. It’s time to start this debate. Taxpayers have paid so far Maumoon: 72 million Nasheed: 43 million Waheed: 25 million Yameen: 9 million Solih: 10 million Total: 159 million. These payments will continue, and future former presidents will become eligible too. As a nation, we must ask, can we afford this? Are these allowances proportionate to our economic reality, national income and the living standards of ordinary Maldivians? Public money should reflect public priorities.

Azaan knows what he's doing. When a petition with over 7000+ signatures are in the parliament MP's ain't taking time to complaint for no reason. It's to create distractions from the real issues raised You signed up to be a representative of the people. Act like one
It might sound simple, but it really isn't. We need to understand that this is a deeply ingrained practice in our society. For generations, MPs, community leaders and people in prominent positions have been expected to contribute towards Eid celebrations, Ramadan activities, mosque renovations, sporting events and almost every other community activity. These expectations did not develop overnight, and making such contributions illegal won't magically make them disappear. Now, you could argue that none of this is the responsibility of an MP. And you would be absolutely right. Legally, we have no obligation to finance these activities. But there is a difference between what the law requires and what society expects. When a practice is so deeply rooted in our culture, the social pressure to conform is enormous. Most MPs end up contributing, not necessarily because they want to, but because refusing to do so comes with its own social consequences. You cannot simply legislate away a deeply ingrained social expectation and assume that people will change their behaviour overnight. Changing the culture that has sustained these practices for decades is an entirely different challenge.

most ordinary people working 8 to 4 jobs don't have side incomes. they live paycheque to paycheque, battling inflation and ever rising food prices. meanwhile, the extremely privileged cry "victim" to the very people carrying the burden. you built the handout culture. don't use it as an excuse to claim hardship. 🤷‍♀️

MDP National Council can easily debate and decide. It’s up to them to trigger a debate.

Fuck you @MohamedNasheed. You claim to be the father of democracy and you fucking don’t even want to have a democratic conversation among MDP on Eagle Hills. Instead you are running with your personal opinions. The man has probably gotten an equal share of the money brother Abdhallah got. I refuse to believe otherwise.
Update More screenshots. Nasheed fleeing and running away cause he doesn’t want to chair QM meeting cause he knows majority would talk against him😂😂😂

This is epic but ultimately no different from any other video of politicians posing for PR. There’s a lot more of current mayor Adam Azim pretending to help people when it’s campaign time. If only he’d spend atleast just as much time doing his job as he does posing for cameras.

Ignorant bastards like these are a cancer to the society
President’s Salary: Mvr 100,000 Chief Justice Salary: Mvr 91,000 Majilis Deputy Speaker: Mvr 91,000 Majilis Speaker Salary: 73,000 It’s only fair the speaker of Majilis is paid a salary that is on par with the heads of other branches of government. Especially since the deputy speaker earns more in the current pay framework.
