Nintendo Switch carts do not and never used ROM masks, they always used NAND with write protected area, so this wont affect anything whatsoever.
Macronix, Nintendo’s main ROM chip supplier for Switch game cards, is getting out of the ROM business.
The Taiwanese company is phasing out production and won’t develop any new ROM products.
- Q3 2026 will be the last quarter it reports ROM sales separately.
- Macronix will shift towards other memory techs, including NAND.
This will affect the supply chain behind Nintendo’s physical game cards.

A few threads I'm pulling on within #PlayStation's Q2 2026 numbers:
- Strong quarter for the overall business. The YoY OI jump looks like a larger spike than it might otherwise because the 2025 quarter was impacted by impairment charges. Exchange rates also impacted sales. Keep that in mind.
- Margins continue to improve (this brings up a few questions that I'll cover later).
- Wolverine is a somewhat muted launch when compared to PlayStation's historical numbers on first party titles. Maybe it picks up over the holiday season.

I've seen this floating around a bit today and want to address it directly because it all feels so misinformed
🟥 Macronix does not make Switch 2 game cards
🟥 Macronix is one of several Switch 1 game card manufacturers
🟨 Macronix is winding down its ROM production. This is significant because they have been providing Nintendo with chips for something like 30 years!
Nothing to worry about here. The initial reporting is flawed at best and the followup reposts from news outlets are just parroting bad information.

❗️NVIDIA 30 SERIES GPU OWNERS – PLEASE READ
Since the launch of MW4, we've seen an increasing number of people coming in with NVIDIA 30 Series graphics cards. This has been happening consistently enough that it's worth bringing attention to.
In just the last week, our team has come across cases involving GPU overheating issues.
If you're running a 30 Series card (3060, 3060 Ti, 3070, 3070 Ti, etc.), please take a few minutes to do the following:
1. Download HWiNFO (available through the Microsoft Store) and run as sensors only mode.
2. Monitor your GPU temperatures while playing MW4.
3. Pay close attention to your GPU Hotspot Temperature.
If your hotspot temperature is reaching or exceeding 85°C, we strongly recommend having your GPU's thermal paste and pads professionally inspected and replaced if necessary.
Please have this work done by a professional unless you're confident in your ability to do it yourself.
We wanted to bring this to everyone's attention before it potentially leads to more serious hardware issues. Better to catch it early than risk damaging your GPU.
