Tim Sweeney called Valve's AI disclosure rule "abhorrent," claiming it forces devs to make a "political statement" that invites a "hate mob." I don’t get the outrage.
Disclosing AI usage is just basic transparency, no different than ingredient labels on food.

It's really quite simple. He wants what Gabe/Valve has, but this arrogant, pretentious prick has no interest in providing players a service to match what Steam already does. Tim has a massive inferiority complex, ask me how I know. xitter.cf/EXEcutionare/status/20…
Bruh the only game I used EGS for is Rocket League, because you can't get it through Steam anymore and I've already invested a lot of time into it, but short of that, I don't fuck with Epic. They could release a big game I want free on EGS and I'd still rather just purchase it on Steam.
I don't like Epic and I REALLY don't like Tim Sweeney, so I've got two big reasons not to support EGS.

There is a real economic cost to Valve’s foray into forced political disclosures. Besides taking 30%, they’re also taking a potentially even larger fraction of developers’ revenue and livelihood by undermining their business with these AI hate campaigns.

Steam requires disclosure of generative AI for player-consumed content via its standard Content Survey (alongside ratings), shown on store pages for transparency, not as political statements. Steam's base 30% revenue share matches major console platforms.

Tim Sweeney is speedrunning a bad reputation. Makes me wonder if his company is on fire and he is desperately trying to save the remaining ashes like he did manage before. His name is going to leave a bad taste in our mouths for years. Fun to witness his downfall from the outside

He wants the disclosure removed so Epic doesn't have to abide by Valve's quality standards
Tim would drown the industry in slop, he is not a friend

Dear @TimSweeneyEpic ,
You've done more damage to developers with your pro-Ai crusade that even if a developer doesn't use gen ai or ai tools in future UE6 games, the customers will label the game as - made with ai - because its UE and because of how you've been gloating about pushing AI.
You just don't realize it (or perhaps not even care) because you are solely focused how fast users will be able to generate content for fortnite by pushing development with Ai. And that is your entire incentive in this debacle isn't it not.
You fought Apple, Google, etc so more of the spending people did on Fornite would return back to Epic rather than the platforms having a bigger cut and you did it in the name of "this is for the developers" façade.
This is all about money at the end of the day and everybody can see it now.

Not true. I just hate to see Valve confiscate ever more opportunity from small developers by facilitating new categories cancel campaigns and review bombing. Steam used to just facilitate downloads. Then they foreclosed on payments, then price competition, then crypto, now AI.
Unreal Engine has become such a headache to use. It really is a motivation killer.
I spent most of my time correcting the engines mess ups of imports, scale issues and other crap that seems half implemented.
Honestly ready to just drop this engine at this point.

I’ve come to the realization that Tim Sweeney is the Elon Musk of the gaming industry—and no, I don’t mean that as a compliment.
Certain groups of people really love them because they’re both CEOs of very successful tech companies who are heavily endorsing Generative AI, but in reality they’re both chuds trying to cope with the fact that the rest of us who don’t worship them think that they’re massive losers.
Replying to @GeneratorRexy @Filmbot
Let’s explore that idea. Say there is a large contingent of gamers that don’t like democrats or, equivalently, republicans. Should Valve force developers to list their political affiliation? Is that pro-consumer? Do you think that policy would have a positive effect on gaming?
SonSon 💫 retweeted
if AI is as great as you say, why do you want to hide it from your customers so bad?
Tim Sweeney is criticizing Valve again over Steam’s requirement for developers to disclose their use of generative AI.
The Epic Games CEO called the policy “abhorrent,” arguing that developers are being forced to make a “political statement” that could be used against them by a “hate mob.”
Sweeney has been criticizing the policy since 2025, previously comparing the disclosure to a “Scarlet Letter” and arguing that AI will eventually be part of almost every game production process.

The problem with Tim is that he doesn’t realize that Valve is only doing this because their customers asked them to. Doing what your customers want you to do is how you build a successful business consumers love so you don’t have to lay off 1000 people. It’s not political, dweeb

Tully Ackland, another Design Director left Epic at the same time than Eric.
He was directing all Fortnite modes with stuff like:
- Game Balance, Matchmaking, Competitive
- He was the lead for the Zero Build revamp & Overwatch collab
- Engagement Events & Limited Time Modes
- Led development on 7 Fortnite seasons in total
Very weird pattern to see 2 Design Directors gone at the same time honestly.
Eric Williamson, a very very OG Fortnite dev left Epic Games in August, he was responsible for:
- Designing & Directing the entirety of Chapter 1
- Third Party Publishing
- Creative Director for Lego Fortnite
- Ecosystem Design
- & way more
He is the guy who used to appear in the old Fortnite update videos, sad to see him gone 🥲

If the market sentiment changed, I bet Steam would change too. Nothing political about it
