When Amazon brought me to Seattle to help build AWS, almost everyone at the org was an immigrant. The ratio was probably ~20:1. This “visa abuse” was what was necessary to create the biggest American companies in the history of commerce. The Seattle metro area became one of the wealthiest regions in the world because of this, but let’s shut the whole system down that made this possible.
BREAKING: The Trump administration is suspending Microsoft, Adobe, and several major IT outsourcing firms from a key employment-based green card program, accusing them of abusing the visa system at the expense of American workers.
Vice President JD Vance singled out Microsoft, saying the tech giant laid off 6,000 American workers while benefiting from 6,300 H-1B visas and nearly 3,000 green cards.
"You cannot lay off American workers and then replace them with foreign indentured servants."
The Labor Department says it will stop accepting new applications and processing pending applications from the targeted companies as federal investigations continue.

Chandrasekhar died exactly 31 years ago today. At 19, on the boat from India to Cambridge in 1930, he worked out that a white dwarf above ~1.4 solar masses could not remain stable. Eddington publicly rejected the result. 53 years later, Chandrasekhar won the Nobel Prize for his work on stellar evolution.

PM Rajiv Gandhi addressed Joint session of US Congress in 1985
His wit, vision, humor made everyone fall in love with India back then.
His historic “India is an old country but a young nation” remains one of the most powerful address ever.
Remembering Rajiv Gandhi everyday.
Beautiful and heartwarming. The world is better than what @X shows.

In my experience most of the Americans are like this but there is significant minority of bigots and racists too who are getting more radicalized thanks to algorithms on @X which encourages engagement farming through rage baiting. They then go on to influence policies of @GOP.

We quit our jobs.
There were six of us — Shiv Nadar, Arjun Malhotra, Yogesh Vaidya, Subhash Arora, D.S. Puri and me.
It was 1976. Startups were not really a thing in India. Venture capital did not exist. Banks were not exactly lining up to lend money to six young men with an idea and no collateral.
And computers? Most people had barely heard of them.
But we believed the microprocessor was going to change the world.
So we took the plunge.
Between the six of us, we managed to put together ₹1.87 lakh. We borrowed, pooled our savings and, in one case, even sold a car.
Our first office was a small barsati in Golf Links, Delhi.
We called ourselves Microcomp. We wanted to build an Indian computer.
There was just one problem.
We didn’t have a manufacturing licence.
That eventually led us to UP Electronics Corporation. They had the licence. We had the technology. And that partnership gave birth to Hindustan Computers Limited — HCL.
But perhaps the most audacious part of the story was what happened next.
We started selling a computer that was still being designed.
We had a brochure and a mock-up of the machine. That was it.
Our sales teams went across India, knocking on doors and convincing businesses to buy into a technology they had never used before.
The first orders came from IIT Kharagpur and IIT Madras.
Then came the harder part — convincing businesses.
In Coimbatore, we were up against DCM DP, a much bigger and more established name. I still remember sitting in the reception area of Premier Mills while the DCM team made its pitch.
We went in second.
And we won.
That one order gave us five more. Then ten.
That was HCL in those early years: not having the biggest balance sheet, the biggest brand or the easiest path — but finding a way.
We were restless.
We looked for gaps. We hired people who had what we called a “cowboy” spirit. We believed that technology had to be made useful and accessible, not intimidating.
And we kept moving.
From building India’s early indigenous computers to taking our business to Singapore when HCL was just four years old. From a small room in Delhi to a global technology company.
When I look back at 50 years, I think about six people sitting together in 1976, wondering if this crazy idea could actually work.
I think about a barsati.
A brochure for a computer that did not yet exist.
And the courage to knock on the next door.
That, to me, is the real HCL story.
50 years later, the technology has changed beyond anything we could have imagined.
But the spirit remains the same:
Dream big. Take the risk. And above all, Just Aspire.
Happy 50th, HCL.
What a journey it has been.

America is BETTER OFF when educated, skilled immigrants come here and build their lives here.
They earn.
They buy homes.
They spend.
They invest.
They start businesses.
They create jobs.
They build America.
This is not a zero-sum game.
Don’t let politicians shrink your worldview into “us vs. them.” Someone else succeeding in America does not mean America is losing.
And spare me the nativism.
We are a nation built by generations of people who came from somewhere else, worked their asses off, and made this country richer, stronger and more innovative.
Immigration isn’t America’s weakness. It’s one of our greatest competitive advantages.
We are better than this petty shit.

Thanks for flagging. My office looked. She’s a naturalized US citizen, not here on student visa.
As US Atty over Houston, I take visa fraud seriously. We prosecute it to the fullest. Neither illegal aliens nor those who obtain legal status illegally are welcome on American soil.

For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter.
AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country.
Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty.
The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models.

As a successful skilled immigrant, I am deeply grateful for the education and career opportunities America has provided me over the past 25 years. This country’s spirit of innovation and openness has been truly transformative.
Thank you America and Happy 250th Independence Day to all! 🇺🇸 🎉🙏❤️

Sarvam becoming an HBS case is a defining moment for Indian AI.
The next decade’s question is clear will India merely consume intelligence built elsewhere, or build sovereign AI for 1.4B people, 22 languages and our own institutions?
This can become a Nifty 50-scale category.

I'm the Indian guy Alex Hormozi and Tony Robbins are talking about.
I came to the US with a thick Indian accent and was told I'd never get employed anywhere if I couldn’t learn how to speak.
But here’s the thing:
I couldn't afford a speaking coach. I was a janitor barely making ends meet.
So I taught myself how to speak properly, but it wasn’t from a speaking course…
I checked out Tony Robbins tapes from the public library and listened to them every night as I mopped floors.
This is why I live by the saying that not giving up is the most heroic thing you can do.
I could’ve listened to the employers and stayed as a janitor.
But your starting point is not your story… it's just the first chapter of it.

Kudos to @AgniVesa_07, another youngster who has exposed the tip of a huge iceberg of India hate generating factory run by Pakistan.
It is up to @MIB_India @GoI_MeitY @MEAIndia to use many such wonderful talent India has and fight the infowar against India. Do go through his thread and definitely see the screenshots in particular.
And this is just one such anti-India hate factory handler account. There are hundreds of such handlers and thousands working for them if you add another two adversaries to India (yes, those who helped Pak during OpSindoor.)
