The story of how Wisconsin author Sterling North's book "Rascal" became a Japanese anime "Araiguma Rascal" known the world over... A book coming in 2026.
I am excited to learn that the Ambassador of Japan to the USA, Shigeo Yamada, will be visiting the Sterling North Museum in Edgerton, Wisconsin on September 18, and presenting a gift of a Library of Japan to the public library there.
There is a connection between Rascal and Star Wars... the original "Rascal" book in 1963 was illustrated by John Schoenherr, whose 1975 drawings of an alien were emulated to create Chewbacca's appearance.
Yes, of course. Everything must have been delivered by train. This example is from November 1918. When I look at advertisements in the Brailsford newspaper, I am most surprised to see fresh oysters sold by the pint and quart.
"Hidy Hidy" is a mystery to me, as a native Wisconsin English speaker. I enjoy language and all of English's strange words, but I did not know that word until I watched "Araiguma Rascal." I assumed it was "おいで" for many years, but it's not.
Yes it is! About 17 km by 6 km? Sterling's canoe trip to return Rascal to the wild - about 8 km... although Google Maps does not have a "travel by canoe" option. :-)
