Manchester City were first informed that they had been found guilty of more than 100 breaches of the Premier League's financial rules in the summer.
Sources told ESPN club chiefs were initially made aware of the findings of the independent panel in July. It was followed by an aggressive approach in the summer transfer window, during which seven senior signings arrived at the Etihad Stadium at a cost of more than £450 million…

MLS executives would probably just shrug this off as a sign of the technological times.
But newspapers still heavily invest (relatively speaking) in football and basketball coverage.
So much for that spike in public interest after the World Cup. 🙄

They should make a playoff where all 30 teams make it but then each team plays 34 games and you get awarded points for winning or tying games and then at the end of the playoffs you get to see who wins by who has the most points.
MLS is reportedly planning a major playoff shakeup for 2027.
20 teams, one combined table, and a "double chance" round for the top 8 seeds modeled on Australian Rules Football's system.
I mocked up how the new MLS playoff system could work 👇

🚨 Cavan Sullivan’s red card has been rescinded by an independent panel after the Philadelphia Union appealed.
Sullivan now is not suspended and available for selection this weekend against Austin FC
Yikes
New: MLS is planning another potential overhaul to its playoff system, one that could involve as many as 20 teams, feature a "double-elimination" component along with a mess of other changes. Nothing finalized yet.

BREAKING: Infantino forced to withdraw World Cup sell-off!
Statement attributable to the FIFA President
The FIFA Forward Enterprise project was intended to provide a basis for further strengthening our FIFA Member Associations and our sport worldwide, especially in those countries where support is most needed. And more so, as we said from the outset, to do this only if a majority of the FIFA Member Associations were in support and always subject to a consultation process with them, the FIFA Council, the Confederations and wider stakeholders.
Having listened carefully to all the views, it has become clear that the project has created divisions of a nature that, regardless of the level of support, are no longer in the interest of the objective set out in the first place.
Our purpose has always been - and will always be - to unite and improve.
As a result, this proposal will not proceed.
Moving forward, my intent is to bring all interested parties back together in the coming days and weeks in the spirit of shared interest in our game, and with the objective to continue growing football everywhere, particularly in those countries that mostly need our support.
Good

WILD.
There was reportedly significant frustration in the USMNT camp among both players and staff after the Balogun controversy overshadowed the World Cup Round of 16 game against Belgium.
Per talkSPORT: "Multiple USMNT players,
preferring to remain anonymous to protect relationships, have told talkSPORT that Trump publicly confirming he had spoken to Infantino on July 6 caused more damage in their view than news of the original call itself. This came just a day before the game and was seen as unhelpful because it essentially aided Belgium's team talk."
