Independent teams should not be eligible for any post season play. Theeir won loss record should not count. Their player's statistics should not count. They are exhibition teams and should be treated as such.
As a lifelong Notre Dame fan, I have come to realize that unless the Irish finish 12-0, they may never get a fair shake from the College Football Playoff (CFP). I believe the CFP committee, the SEC, and the Big Ten all have a bias against Notre Dame. Why? Because Notre Dame dares to remain independent. Being independent means Notre Dame can only schedule the teams willing to play them. USC, Indiana, Michigan, and others have all canceled or changed their series with the Irish. They claim it's because of the move to a nine-game conference schedule. But if these programs are as strong as they claim to be, why should playing Notre Dame be a problem? I believe Notre Dame will win today. But even at 11-1, I wouldn't be surprised if the CFP committee finds a way to keep the Irish at No. 12 or lower. And that's fine. If I were a Division I football player and had to choose between winning a national championship and earning a degree from Notre Dame, I would choose the Notre Dame degree every time. A Notre Dame education opens more doors and creates opportunities that last a lifetime. A national championship is special, but an education from Notre Dame is something you carry with you forever. So, Notre Dame Football, stand your ground. Stay independent. Don't compromise your identity or your values just to satisfy the powers that be. Eventually, those same programs that refuse to play you may be the ones begging for the opportunity. LOVE THEE, NOTRE DAME! ☘️
