@TCrispr lays out his brilliant paper on phages in childrens gut. I remember once thinking "Wow, we identified a handful of new viral families!". Shiraz and the rest of this group just found +100 new ones 🤯 Check out the brilliant online overview 👇 tiny.cc/aq76vz

Very excited to see our story online in @NAR_Open!🎉 We found plasmids in nature carry a fascinating diversity of CRISPR-Cas🌈🤯 We characterized their abundance, diversity, distribution & investigated their CRISPR contents to infer their function(s)!! academic.oup.com/nar/advance…

Binning #viral / #phage genomes directly from #metagenomics data while automatically defining #viralpopulations across samples? Now you can using PHAMB - new tool to run on top of VAMB (or another binner)! Fantastic work led by @joachim from my group: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Writing this review got me even more fascinated by phages!
Phage diversity, genomics and phylogeny Dion, Oechslin and Moineau explore the diversity of phages at the structural, genomic and community levels as well as their complex evolutionary relationships. nature.com/articles/s41579-0… @smoineau @moira_dion

What are friends for? When bacteria are attacked by deadly phage virus they emit a warning signal to their neighbouring friends so they can stay clear of the danger zone. jb.asm.org/content/201/23.co… #phagedefense #pseudomonas @JBacteriology Thanks to @lundbeckfonden for support.

In today's episode of things that probably only annoy me... I know that CRISPR adaptive immunity originated before siRNAs and piRNAs in eukaryotes. But the latter were mechanistically described much earlier. 1/2
