BREAKING: NYT reports that operatives with Democratic Alaska U.S. Senate candidate Mary Peltola’s campaign were behind the effort to find & recruit a candidate named Dan Sullivan to run against incumbent GOP Senator Dan S. Sullivan in an effort to confuse voters and peel votes from him.
Specifically, NYT says they have reviewed text messages and documents that reveal in summer 2025, a Peltola staffer received instructions from campaign staffers to find as many people named Dan Sullivan in Alaska as possible.
The staffer complied, going through voter records, and compiled a list. The operation “involved secret trips to far-flung Alaskan communities and the appearance of a mysterious Midwestern operative, who traversed the state using a fake name and made his pitch to would-be candidates over beers at brew pubs.”
Per NYT:
“The plan worked. This spring, a retired teacher from a tiny fishing village along the Alaska Panhandle, reachable only by air and sea, announced his candidacy for Senate. His name was Dan J. Sullivan.”

End of Day 21 of Arizona early vote: Republicans end the day up 15,301 ballots, R +1.3. That’s double this morning’s lead, and 3.3 points better than the same day in 2022, when Democrats led by 2.

Update: Republicans are breaking the 2022 trend and are ahead. Because it’s down year for Republicans, we need to replicate 2018 style numbers for positive results.

Statewide, Democrats lead by 2,149 ballots out of 830,215, a 0.3 point margin. On this day in 2022 it was D +2.4. Republicans are at 38.4% of early returns, already above the 37.1% they finished with in 2022.

Big Maricopa drop this morning: 53,260 ballots at R +4.8. Republicans now lead Maricopa’s early returns, 38.4% to 38.3%. On this day in 2022, Democrats led Maricopa by 1.1 points.
