Nice piece by @sidlowe about transition from pro football, focusing on @Guaje7Villa @PFA and @ValdanoOfficial theguardian.com/football/blo…
"A problem shared is a problem halved." Powerful stuff @WaspsRugby @LimaSopoaga #MentalHealthAwareness
💬 Around 450 million people currently suffer from mental health issues, placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill-health and disability worldwide...
...IT'S TIME TO TALK.
@DellTech #MentalHealthAwareness
This is a massive issue in less-developed nations like South Africa. We have a huge talent pool and the academies and teams just use this conveyer belt to suit their needs, without preparing the kids with essential life skills #lifeaftersport @John_C_Robbie
Academy and female footballers are at risk groups, who can be released precipitously, sometimes without the resources and support enjoyed by more senior athletes. The long term psychosocial effects are not yet well studied
@QPR @seancarmody1 @FIFPro
If only more agents and coaches were aware of this. It should be prioritised
Athletes who study for a second career are more likely to have a more successful sports career
...but are also saving up into a post retirement bank of wellbeing #mindthegap thepfa.com/news/2019/9/11/mo…

Just heard that Chester Williams passed away. I cannot believe it. Just a few weeks after James Small. A great player and a very humble guy. Hamba Kahle

One of the most powerful things I have ever read.
To go through what he has gone through, and come out of the other side shows the real strength, and character of the man.

Powerful. Focus on mental health hasn’t grown at the same speed as the rest of professionalism in sport. Especially in traditionally patriarchal societies, where speaking up is a sign of weakness. Let’s hope South Africans in all sporting codes can learn from this

Definitely worth a read. We can all be part of the change we want to see in this space. Well played @paulharris12
A topic not spoken about enough in my opinion. Check out my thoughts on post retirement. livecriconline.com/paul-harr…

What a win @JDCLASSIC for @Dylan_Frittelli! We caught up with him this time last year and it seemed his star was rising sportexchange.co.za/podcast/… @John_C_Robbie #JohnDeereClassic

Devastated to hear of the death of James Small. Brilliant player, complex and far from perfect guy, good heart. Interviewed him recently and then bumped into him again. He seemed happy. He was one of a kind. #RIPJamesSmall
In this week’s episode of The Sport Exchange, I have the most brilliant and honest chat with @Springboks legend, James Small (@JamesTerenceSm1). He relives the magical moments of his career and some of the tougher times post that: bit.ly/2nlHR1K #LifeAfterSport

After the sad news of James Small's passing, I highly recommend listening to this chat he had with @John_C_Robbie a year ago. Insightful, intelligent, honest. He was a champion who provided one of SA's most memorable sporting moments.

Great to see the performance of @BezChristiaan last week.
Watching this shy and humble guy sticking his chest out over the last few months has been brilliant.
Works hard and now shows confidence without arrogance.
One to watch!
SA keeps delivering

Couldn't agree more. Let's hope this opens the way for other athletes to get the help they need. Mental health issues do not mean you are mentally weak! – at Durban, South Africa
What a wonderful example of being willing to speak up @CTL_sport @TFW_Group @kirstvanh #lifeaftersport
