Grateful to work w/ Peter Libby & team on our new @JAMACardio paper: how do we actually run CV outcomes trials in Clonal Hematopoiesis? Genetic heterogeneity, clone size, recruitment, competing risks, and statistical power all complicate trial design. 🔗jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…

Breaking and MASSIVE; Targeting IL6 fails to improve CV outcomes in Zeus trial. While ziltivekimab demonstrated target engagement and inhibition of the IL-6 pathway, as reflected by expected reductions in free IL-6 and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) respectively, this did not translate into major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) risk reduction versus placebo in people with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), chronic kidney disease (CKD) and inflammation (hazard ratio, 0.99; 95% confidence interval, 0.88 to 1.11). novonordisk.com/content/nnco…

Using workforce planning as a blackmail tactic threatening doctor unemployment and risk to patient care in the future is a bizarre stance. Work force planning is not the responsibility of doctors in training. They do more than enough to hold the NHS together.

🚨🚨🚨🚨 Imagine if there had been no RCP EGM in 2024………… What would things be like by now? Those changes have not been down to the RCP in any way. Remember those who stood up and forced the change. Use your vote wisely! @DrAsifQasim @DrLKVaughan @jfdwolff
What we need in the RCP is people who take a stand for training & medical practice standards, even when it costs them. @DrAsifQasim spoke up for patients and trainees at the March 2023 EGM, & has done it before and since. We should all vote for him in the RCP Council elections.

And lastly, in what can only be described as an epic season finale, @DrAsifQasim drops an absolute banger. "i am deeply concerned we will take a patient safety hit if we do not act"

I’ll be honest: @DrAsifQasim should have been PRCP. He has consistently stood up for Medicine, for trainees, for patients, and for integrity. He did so with no platforms or positions. Any of us who believe in Medicine and its future should vote for him to be on the Council.
I'm pleased to be standing for election for @RCPhysicians council! Physicians and the RCP face serious pressures and we need strong, clear policies and leadership to ensure patients benefit from high quality medical care. rcp.ac.uk/membership/electio…

If @BMAResidents doctors accept the new proposal they will have taken industrial action (and its loss of earnings) to expand places for their own training. This is extraordinary. That the future of medicine in the U.K. have had to strike to ensure safe workforce planning 1/2

…is shameful on this and previous governments as well as the Royal Colleges. It should not have taken resident doctors and the @TheBMA to transform a woefully inadequate workforce plan! What have medical leaders @DHSCgovuk and @NHSEngland @NHSEmployers been doing ? @bbcr4
