The Ninth Circuit Court dismissed a DOJ appeal seeking to block California from counting mail-in ballots from a list of 20,000 people the department alleges are not citizens. In a court filing, California said the DOJ's allegations relied on "suspect data."
The court ruled 2-1 that it could not currently hear the appeal as the lower court has not yet issued a decision. The case will continue in the lower court with a hearing on Tuesday.
Former FBI Director James Comey has been charged for the third time with federal crimes.
Federal prosecutors allege that Comey directed staff to speak to a reporter over what he believed was misinformation, and that they shared classified information in the process.
Could a second Dan Sullivan affect the Alaska Senate race?
On Thursday, the Justice Department sued Alaska and its Division of Elections director, seeking to preemptively block certification of the state’s Senate election if it is impacted by “voter confusion," caused by two Dan Sullivans appearing on the ballot.

I'm bringing it back now under the @TangleNews banner as part of our newsletter offerings.
It'll come out every week or two, cover controversial political and political-adjacent topics, and give me an opportunity to wade into some topics that we don't get to in Tangle's main suite of coverage.

Surgeons removed part of Pope Leo's lung and confirmed he has a form of lung cancer, the Vatican said.

An individual was shot by federal law enforcement agents in the Bronx. News outlets are reporting that the federal agents were a part of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Details of the incident remain unclear.
At around 4pm today, there was a shooting involving federal law enforcement agents in the Marble Hill neighborhood of the Bronx. The NYPD was not involved in the incident and was not on scene at the time of the shooting. The individual who was shot is at a nearby hospital and is currently conscious and receiving medical attention.
The Supreme Court returned with a climate change case that could prove to be one of the most important of the term.
