When a sport select players for elite teams before puberty,
they are more likely to choose:
• Players who have more sport-specific practice
• More biologically mature players
Problems spiral from there:

I sound like a broken record, I understand, Parents, your son does not NEED fall baseball for “ exposure “ at 10-15 yrs of age. Pitching twice in a weekend for “ college exposure “ is a lie! Play other sports, find a strength coach/program! Young man at 14 throwing 112 on Fri and 36 on Sunday is a crime !

When you simply think about it. Earning a medal at a World Championships or in the Olympics is hard as HELL. You have to be one of the top THREE on the PLANET one day out of 365 late in the year at that. Kudos to everyone whose made that happen in the past & present..

Always try to tell athletes why it’s key to train in-season
Some listen, some don’t
The best lesson, though?
When they stop training for 3 months & then come back:
- Vertical down 3 inches
- Down 10-12lbs
- Strength lifts down 40lbs
Experience is a good teacher

Amazes me STILL how many athletes & parents don’t get it
You have to train in-season
It’s not an exaggeration… you HAVE to
You’re wasting your time training for a couple months, losing all your progress & repeating that same cycle year after year
Make time for it, do it

The kids who miss the fewest workouts are the ones who report the least soreness.
Fascinating, it's as if the kids with the lowest work capacities are the most fragile?

Good morning to everyone except people who tell athletes not to lift in season
Athletes: lift in season!!

In the US we beat kids into the ground with the idea they need year round games or excessive skill work to reach their potential.
Then when these kids have no time for strength training parents wonder why the LTAD process failed them. S&C has to play a bigger role.

My boys HS bball players went out for track. They've never seen a track meet. Didn't have a clue. They competed in long jumps, 100m, 4x100, shot put, 200, 4x400 and showed out. This is what off-season bball should look like! A 9th grade player long jumped 18ft and had no clue-
