Finally got to see the @Hedgeye investing summit and watch one of my fav gals @DiMartinoBooth chat w/@KeithMcCullough Very informative. She pointed this out. Whoa Annual Biz Bankruptcies up +20% Household's? 👇 "Chapter 7 filings—a lifeline for many struggling households—were up 46.93% year-over-year (5,157 in 2024 to 7,577 in 2025)" 😳

In 2000 we had the tech bubble. In 2008 we had the housing bubble. Wouldn’t it be a grand idea to combine the two and see what happens?

by "Trump's tariffs" I mean reciprocal tariffs (54% on China, 20% on EU, etc.). Not the 10% floor. If it's just 10%, I think more positive outcomes are likely I actually think many Americans - in particular the Trump base - agree with @APompliano. That is why I think Pres Trump will continue to go hard - super aggressive tariff policy is not unpopular yet because it hasn't caused any real economic pain yet. Much greater selloff needed for capitulation.

I'm not upset. I just think Trump's tariffs, if implemented, will cause a collapse in global trade and financial markets.
Imagine being upset because the leader of your country says he wants to protect the businesses and workers of your nation.

The irony of this “faux right wing” on X is they’re parroting far left Marxist ideologies with dreams of eating the rich for the “working man”, celebrating redistribution of income

I know this is not what you guys want to hear, BUT Trump and Bessent have said over the last two months, prior to the final tariff announcement, that they wanted USD lower, the long end yields down, and they didn't care what the market did. They told you ahead of time.

Commodities like oil, silver, and copper are down sharply today as investors are pricing in a global recession. But the recession will mainly be limited to the U.S. The rest of the world is about to boom, as they will be liberated from having to subsidize the U.S. economy. The U.S. has a difficult road ahead. We need to start producing all the stuff we've been importing. That requires significant investment and painful short-term sacrifice. On the other hand, all the rest of the world has to do is consume more of what they already produce. Not only is that easy to do, but it's also fun.

‼️This has been a BAD SIGNAL for US stocks in the past: US CEOs' outlook for the economy has dropped to the lowest in 14 YEARS. Historically, when the outlook has declined so rapidly the US stock market underperformed over the next 12 months. The sentiment is truly dire.

The weird thing about people saying this is that we've already established -- The White House has admitted it! -- that we didn't base our tariff rates on actual tariffs imposed by other countries. So where does this idea come from that this effort will get other barriers dropped?
Replying to @Jason
I’m bullish. I think the American consumer is the only consumer globally that consistently matters. Everyone else is either too poor, economically volatile, or small to matter. That means the US has more leverage than we think in getting other countries to drop tarrifs on our goods. Other countries need our consumption more than we need theirs and should buckle under pressure.

Nike won't build factories in the U.S. to make sneakers. That would add more cost than the 40% tariffs. Plus, they need to stay competitive selling to customers in other countries that don't impose tariffs. The result will be fewer sneakers sold in the U.S. at much higher prices.
