Replying to @afpillinois
@afpillinois is asking @ILAttyGeneral and four county state's attorneys to investigate whether 24 local taxing bodies used taxpayer resources to campaign for more taxpayer money.
“If they don’t, they’re really letting local government run rampant here, breaking state law. It’s as if the state ethics act didn’t even exist,” Costin said. thecentersquare.com/illinois…
If not enough Illinois kids are reading at grade level, well then, lower the standards!
That’s exactly what Gov. Pritzker and his State Board of Education appointees voted for last year. They lowered reading and math standards significantly.
Unsurprisingly, more kids are suddenly doing better on reading and math tests.
It’s Pritzker’s way of hiding how his education policies – and those of the teachers unions – are hurting Illinois children.
On the national standardized tests (NAEP) in 2024, just 13% of 4th-grade black children in Illinois could read at grade level. It was only 11% for math. Latino scores weren’t much better.
Here’s what should change:
Spending statewide is now at nearly $25,000 per kid. That’s more than enough to do the following:
1. Return standards to where they were and hold teachers, administrators and parents accountable.
2. Get back to phonics, phonics, phonics.
3. Don’t let kids go to the 4th grade unless they’re at the 3rd-grade level. Test young children throughout the year to stay on target, and to catch those students falling behind.
4. Stop teaching DEI, identitarian politics and social justice. Focus on the three Rs and science. Re-train and re-focus teachers on the core subjects.
5. Roll back the teachers union’s collective bargaining powers to just salaries. End their strike powers.
6. Reform pensions going forward so that they stop draining money from classrooms.
7. Enact universal school choice across the state. Education Savings Accounts for all.
Importantly, there’s a nasty negative correlation between teacher union powers and literacy. That’s why it’s so important to strip Illinois unions of their extreme powers – among the strongest, and maybe the strongest, in the country.
It’s time to fight back.

A proposed solar farm less than 1.5 miles outside of Effingham city limits. Right near a school. An eyesore. Destroying productive farmland.
And subsidized by the state to the hilt – forced via surcharges in electric bills payable by the very residents who oppose the solar farm.
Just like Pritzker did with data centers, he needs to get rid of the tax credits and incentives for these solar projects that would never financially stand on their own.
And just like Pritzker says about data centers, it should be locals that decide whether they want such projects in their counties. Today those decisions are effectively top-down, state enforced mandates pushed by Pritzker.
Get rid of the subsidies. Get rid of the mandates. Return to local control, local decision making.

We have to get back to fighting for marriage and family.
In Chicago, 81% of black children were born to unwed mothers in 2023. It was 60% for Latino children.
That was one of my responses to Chicago Tonight on the upcoming changes to the federal Head Start program.
Two-parent black families have incomes of more than $94K, nearly triple the $34K that a single black mother with kids makes. Intact families result in children with more schooling, higher earnings, better jobs, better mental health, and eventually, more secure marriages of their own.
Billions for unaccountable government programs will do nothing until we refocus on the troubles of the American family.

Just 13% of black 4th-grade CPS students read at grade level. It’s just 19% for Latino children. Despite spending $32,000 per kid.
We can fund all the Head Start programs we want, but if we can't figure out literacy in our schools, we are simply wasting money.
Here’s what needs to happen:
Roll back the CTU’s powers. No more strikes. Limit bargaining to salaries only. Make labor negotiations public.
Bring back phonics with a vengeance.
End social promotion – kids can’t move to fourth grade if they’re not at grade level.
Close the near-empty schools where kids have no chance at an education.
Opt-in to the federal tax credit scholarship program.
Above all, introduce Universal School Choice – Educational Savings Programs for all children.

Blight? In Chicago’s North Shore communities?
That’s what some Northfield officials want you to believe. They want to designate a big part of the city’s commercial district as a TIF. That will allow city officials to siphon off some $170 million over the next 23 years to spend on development and developers of their choice.
Never mind that Northfield is one of the wealthiest communities in the state. And never mind that investment and improvements are already occurring there without a TIF.
Many residents recognize what they see – a money grab by local officials.
In no sane world does Northfield need a TIF.

"Who ultimately receives the $ millions in taxpayer handouts this project will get?"
That a question I asked of a Sol Source Power official - the company looking to build a solar farm in Effingham - during tonight's city council meeting.

Illinois’ extreme energy mandates. The one-size-fits-all policies. The loss of farmland. The taxpayer handouts. It’s all unfair and needs to be rolled back.
More than half the cost of solar projects in Illinois are covered by taxpayer handouts.
There's a project being pushed in Effingham right now.

Illinois solar projects fail without massive state and federal taxpayer handouts.
Illinoisans are being forced – through mandatory surcharges in their electric bills – to pay for the very subsidies that help make solar projects profitable. Their own money is being used to finance solar farms that many communities don’t want.
Here’s how it’s playing out in Effingham.

With Fauci in the news, never forget how Pritzker shut down our economy, our workplaces and our schools for 3 straight years.
Pritzker loves to talk "democracy", but he used Executive Powers – 42 straight "emergency proclamations" – to run the state unilaterally.
His first executive order was in March 2020 and his last was on April 2023.
That alone should disqualify him from being a governor in this country, much less a candidate for President of America.

Pritzker and Johnson's failed policies have stunted Cook County’s growth in total housing units.
When looking at the nation’s 15 largest counties since 2020, Cook County comes in last place. Just a 1.2% growth in total housing units.
Johnson's latest rent policy proposals will only make things worse for Chicagoans. He'll be piling on to the nation’s highest property taxes, the ongoing crime, the city's sanctuary policies, excessive regulation, failed CPS schools and more.
Just say no.

1 of 2) The doubt and mistrust surrounding the Los Angeles mayoral election and Spencer Pratt should remind Illinoisans that their own state shares many of California’s failed election laws – like counting votes that arrive days after Election Day.
Take a look at Illinois’ own rules. Ballots postmarked on or before Election Day can be received up to 14 days after Election Day. Ridiculous. Not a single one of our neighboring states operate that way. There, all ballots are due on Election Day. Period.
We’ll soon see if the Supreme Court, in Watson v RNC, ends the post-election day receipt of ballots. Maybe SCOTUS will fix one of the many Illinois rules that make our voting process so untrustworthy.
#electionintegrity @ILGOP #illinois @spencerpratt #losangeles
2 of 2) Then there’s ballot harvesting where ANYONE can harvest ballots in unlimited amounts. Again, Illinois is just like California.
Look at our neighboring states to see what an outlier Illinois is. Only family or household members can return a ballot in those states (Wisconsin is even more strict).
It’s only in Illinois where anything goes.
40 days of vote-by-mail has already corrupted the voting process. Allowing just anyone to harvest votes makes it all the more laughable.

In Part 2 of today’s Pritzker blame games, this time he’s going after Trump for Illinois’ high gas prices.
But somebody – like the press, if they would – needs to ask Pritzker why Trump’s policies don’t hit the Midwest equally. Why is Illinois’ $5.05 per gallon gas price (avg. per AAA):
94 cents higher than Indiana’s?
88 cents higher than Kentucky's?
87 cents higher than Missouri's?
76 cents higher than Iowa's?
55 cents higher than Wisconsin's?
25 cents higher than Michigan's?
Pritzker’s honest answer would be: “Because after I doubled the motor fuel tax in 2019 and then tied those taxes to inflation, we now have the nation’s 3rd-highest gas taxes. It’s on me.”
But don’t count on Pritzker to tell the truth. Or the media to challenge Pritzker on it.

Check out @GovPritzker’s latest blame game. This time he’s trying to pawn off the potential loss of the Bears on Mayor Brandon Johnson.
It’s a way for Pritzker to both distance himself from Johnson’s unpopularity and create a scapegoat if the Bears do leave.
But the blame falls squarely on Pritzker. His own failures have already chased out of Illinois a bunch of blue chip HQs and operations. Like:
Boeing
Citadel
Morton Salt
Tyson
Guggenheim
Caterpillar
TTX
Peak6 Investments
Pritzker’s been in office for seven years. He owns the mess Illinois is in: Punitive taxes. Violent crime. Overwhelming pension debts. Illegal immigration. Outmigration of Illinoisans. A lack of job creation. Energy bill spikes. And more.
If the Bears leave, it’s all on him.
