Maine in October is a beautiful place.
But behind the postcard views, we met people who are working hard for the American dream—and see it slipping away.
The Senate race gives this story national stakes. But the people give it life.

Elon Musk—Trump’s oligarch—directly threatens members of Congress who may seek to investigate what he’s been doing behind the scenes in our government and political system.
DOGE, Starshield, campaign $
He wants to wield power without accountability.
But here, the people rule.

As long as we are doing DNA tests now, someone should DNA test Vivek Mother Fucking Ramaswamy to see if he is even a fucking human being.
The most underrated word in American politics today is “decency.”
Most of us try to be good parents, good neighbors, good colleagues, good citizens.
Decent people.
A political movement built on gleeful cruelty, open racism, wanton lies, and proud loutishness won’t last.
Replying to @TerryMoran @VivekGRamaswamy
Here's what no one seems to get; back in 1978 you had to be the worst of the worst kind of mom to lose custody of your kids. So let's say you don't believe the rape allegation, OK, but she still lost custody of her kids for something and not only that, her kids were so traumatized that they never spoke to her again. Ever. Her mom has also been charged with theft and in 2021 she was charged with animal abuse. That's who they are siding with. That's just sick.
So @VivekGRamaswamy is now siding with the man who was charged with child sexual abuse—and with that man’s enabling wife—against the victim, who was a little girl at the time.
He is taking the pro-child-rape stand?
What kind of man does this?
SCOOP: Vivek Ramaswamy is doubling down on the explosive ad featuring Amy Acton's estranged mother attacking her daughter, putting $4 million behind it despite fierce bipartisan backlash

What an unprincipled fraud @megynkelly is.
We now know Ramaswamy himself cooked up this attack on Amy Acton—but didn’t want to go public with it on his own—so he slipped it to Megyn, who peddled it with hammy outrage and not the slightest fact-checking.
Shame on both of them.

@megynkelly exposes the truth about Amy Acton. It’s uncomfortable, but every voter in Ohio should watch every second of this.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Court records corroborate that Amy Acton's stepfather was charged and indicted in 1978 for raping her as a child, after which she and her brother were removed from their mother's custody.

Confronted with the Epstein files,
By a protestor speaking clear, American English,
@JDVance resorts to xenophobia and racism.
At least Trump comes by his hatreds honestly.
Vance just performs them.
I think she’s dead wrong.
But how can any Trump supporter complain?
Comey, James, Schiff, Cook, Powell, Taylor, Krebs, Brennan, Smith, Hoffman, Frey, Ellison, Walz, Her, Moriarty, Crow, Goodlander, Houlihan, Kelly, Deluzio, Slotkin, Lander, Baraka,
the Florida “grand conspiracy” probe, the threats against Obama.
Et cetera
You buy the ticket, you take the ride, kid.

I am a second-generation American. I was BORN in the United States. I was raised here. This is the only country I have ever called home.
I grew up believing in mostly conservative principles. Individual liberty, meritocracy, personal responsibility, and the American Dream. I believed these were values worth defending.
But somewhere along the way, something went terribly wrong.
I watched fellow Americans being told they didn't belong because of the immutable characteristics like ancestry. I watched patriotism become a test of ethnicity. I watched people who spent their entire lives loving this country being treated like outsiders in their own homeland.
And perhaps the most heartbreaking part was the silence of people we once considered political allies.
Let me make something absolutely clear.
My American identity is NOT conditional on my skin color. My citizenship is NOT diminished by my surname. And my patriotism does NOT require validation from anyone.
I can disagree with you on immigration, economics, foreign policy, or virtually any political issue. That is democracy.
But I will NEVER entertain a debate about whether I belong in the country where I was born.
No political party is entitled to my unconditional loyalty. Especially not at the expense of my dignity.
I did not come to America. I was born in America.
And I refuse to spend the rest of my life proving that I belong in my own country.
I am an American. Not a guest. Not a foreigner. Not a second-class citizen.
An American. Full stop.
I just cast my ballot for James Talarico.
As a second-generation Indian American, I am thoroughly disgusted by the xenophobia, racial resentment, and increasingly brazen attacks on my identity. My family has contributed to the American story through hard work, sacrifice, and an unwavering belief in the opportunities this nation promises. I am every bit as American as anyone else, and I will not tolerate being treated as a perpetual foreigner in the country I call home.
I implore every eligible Texan to get out and vote. This election is about the kind of state and country we are prepared to defend—and the principles we refuse to surrender.

It’s like Trump is trying to prove he doesn’t give a damn about the real-world, practical problems millions of Americans are facing every day.
Democrats could not script this comically deceitful and arrogantly irrelevant Truth Social post any better for their candidates.
Trump: Washington's beautiful Reflecting Pool, which was badly damaged by Vandals despite the ridiculous writings of some Radical Left person in the D.C. U.S. Attorney's Office who got it wrong and obviously didn't investigate, witness, or see the attached tape, or the very inspiring Jesse Watters show which explained it all, or didn't inspect the vast area of cut and slashed pool surface…is now, after repair, 70% filled with water and looking good. Interestingly, the Reflecting Pool has not worked properly since it was built in 1922 — It always leaked! This will be different, but any Vandals that try to prove the point otherwise, will GO TO JAIL!
We are watching very closely, and security cameras have been installed.
Reports are that it's looking beautiful, and will only get better, subject to NO VANDALISM, with time.
For me, as for so many journalists across several generations, Christiane @amanpour has been an inspiration and a true exemplar of this work we love, this vocation.
She is fearless. Whip-smart. Fair—without false equivalencies. She tells the truth.
“Wherever Russian troops arrive, Ukrainians cease to exist.”
This is Trump’s/Musk’s desire.
The two of them—the president and his oligarch—are aiding and abetting a campaign of ethnocide.
National erasure.
The destruction of a free people’s national identity.
Putin’s dream.
Trump admits that Russia is helping Iran to kill and maim American troops.
But just a “very little.”
This is a grotesque betrayal of US forces on the battlefield in this war—and their families.
The war that Trump launched.
No American Commander-in-Chief has sunk so low.
Trump: My decision on Russia is a very simple one. I don't want to do anything that will drive, foolishly, Russia away from the bargaining table.
Russia is doing very little, if anything, to help the Islamic Republic of Iran, compared to what they could be doing.
Zelenskyy is using Diesel Refineries in Russia as a target, knowing that these attacks are seriously hurting the world diesel markets, including those in the United States.
Farmers, ranchers, and businesses of all kinds are suffering greatly from this, but Russia is, nevertheless, sending, at a low price, millions of barrels of diesel to the World.
Zelenskyy doesn't care, and frankly, with all of the money that Europe is famously giving him, and that Crooked Joe Biden gave him in the past, he doesn't want to end this war, and probably never did.
He could have made a better deal two years ago than he can now. His country is in shambles, a large portion of his land is lost, his oceans and seas are gone, and his male population is low, wounded, and/or dead. I WANT THIS WAR END!
This thread offers a quite logical prediction of our economic future post-Trump.
Worth a read.

5/5 Now, I love America. I'm writing this because I want ordinary Americans to understand the consequences of these disastrous decisions.
The damage being done to America's reputation won't be reversed by the results of the next elections. It will take decades to rebuild that trust.
And the economic consequences, while not immediate, will go much further than a potential 2 cents per gallon decrease in diesel prices.
And if you think the world doesn't notice, or that everything I'm describing is just hypothetical, let me give you two examples of what is already happening.
These decisions were made even before the latest Starshield restrictions, which only make the problem much worse.
Airbus, one of the world's largest aircraft manufacturers, has already signed a contract to move 70 critical applications from Amazon AWS to French cloud provider Scaleway, with plans that could eventually include 900 applications.
Airbus specifically mentioned concerns about foreign laws and potential "kill switches" when choosing its new provider.
In the Netherlands, one of the country's largest telecom companies, KPN, partnered with German Schwarz Digits to build European cloud infrastructure using STACKIT, hosted in Dutch data centers and controlled by European companies.
The Dutch government has also approved STACKIT as an alternative cloud provider for its agencies.
These aren't some people complaining about Trump on Twitter.
These are major corporations signing real contracts, investing real money and building infrastructure to reduce their dependence on American technology.
And that's the part Americans need to understand.
For decades the USA was a reliable partner. Republicans and Democrats disagreed about plenty of things, but America's foreign policy was built around long-term strategic interests and institutions that survived changes in presidents.
Countries trusted the USA enough to build entire industries around its technology.
Now a foreign government has to consider whether some American president might wake up tomorrow wanting cheaper gas, believing another promise from Putin, getting angry with its elected leadership, or trying to get a better deal for his friends.
And suddenly technology that was supposed to make that country more productive becomes a potential political weapon against it.
The USA spent decades making the world dependent on its technology because the world trusted America.
Now American companies will be paying the price for political decisions they didn't make, long after the politicians responsible are gone.
And no election in the USA will magically restore that trust.
