🚨UPDATE: ZachXBT identifies French banking group Crédit Mutuel Arkéa as the alleged victim of a $133 MILLION+ crypto theft.
The group, with approximately $235 BILLION in assets, is allegedly the EU entity previously reported to have lost over $106 million from multiple centralized exchange accounts.
The suspected attacker withdrew USDC and USDT before swapping funds into ETH and Monero and moving assets across blockchains.
ZachXBT’s latest disclosure raises the estimated losses above $133 million.

The suspected attacker withdrew USDC and USDT, then swapped funds into ETH, routed them through instant exchanges, converted to Monero and bridged across chains.
The entity has not publicly confirmed the suspected theft.

A hack of this scale means serious security failures occurred. No platform is unhackable, but that cannot be an excuse. Every incident exposes weaknesses that should have been prevented.
Some details are embarrassing. Public explanations also simplify what appears to have been a prolonged multi month/year attack targeting hundreds of employees and systems, with a few ultimately compromised.
Sharing those details, however uncomfortable, helps the wider industry learn.
As a shareholder, I expect Binance to be transparent about what went wrong, take responsibility, learn from all criticism, and make meaningful improvements. 🙏

THE BLOCK: BitMart founder Sheldon Xia said the exchange was recently hacked for a small amount. Xia did not reveal the exact amount.
Xia said the company suspects the attacker is the same group responsible for the $46 million theft from Brazilian exchange Mercado Bitcoin.
