I am new to Christianity in general and recently baptised & confirmed Catholic Dec 13th 2025. With this account I aim to both learn, discuss & share learnings.

Hey everyone! Tis me! Tom. I'm chronically ill and house bound so forgive the decrepit state here. My family are all agnostics or atheists so I am learning the faith in secret. I've been Christian for some years and trying to complete the Catholic catechism for near a year now. Started officially I think November last year maybe. But was trying to work out how to join before that whilst being too ill to go out and not alerting my lovely parents who care for me. It's slow going getting through all the catechism material online with a brain and body that feels oxygen hungry with altitude sickness and concussion like & poisoned a lot of the time. But I'm getting there! For a good chunk of my illness I was bed bound so at least I've improved from that. There are no known cures but science is advancing and treatments that help a bit are becoming more known. IvIG may well be one that can cure my sub type of chronic illness which I got in 2020 from an unknown virus, but which was greatly exacerbated by the vaccine in late 2021 when it looked like I was finally improving well in the months before that. Have been stuck in limbo since. Autoimmune type reactions with the vaccine probably hence the IvIG has a decent chance of helping me a lot. Not certain. However it's not funded for my type of condition and probably won't be for at least the next decade. I was 23 when I got I'll and super fit. I'm now 28. To self fund it for my doctor who's happy to administer it if we could ever afford it I would need 60,000 NZD for three months. 20 grand a month. NZD as I live in NZ. Far out of reach for my family. So in the last wee while I've also been attempting to spend ten percent of my energy effort on writing a story. Directing it mainly as I can't focus enough to write the whole thing and am instead poking and prodding AI in the direction I want it. It's my ideas and themes and world but written out not fully by me due to my unfortunate limited capacity. I am going to aim to publish some chapters and see if anyone finds it interesting enough to help pay for the IvIG. But I also set up a donation link and people need not read the story to donate. I'm not expecting anything really but it is an attempt to really make it happen. It's a fascinating Catholic tale delving into a sci-fi future. An adventurous tale. It helped me apply my learnings of the faith into pondering what the future will look like for Christians and Catholics once AI really takes off as well as medicine that allows us to choose longer and longer lives. Immortality even. The moral choices and how evil will use it all. People even having to make choices between being 99% AI and one percent human in their brains and the disadvantage societally choosing to remain human brained only might put them in (perhaps for faith and moral reasons), instead of picking augmented Ai brains. Oh and there's some adventurous action packed twists that blend in the spiritual reality made more physical. I'm fully open to being told any wrongs I've made theology wise also. I've been careful. It was as much about applying the Catholic faith I have been growing deeper with as anything else. Most of my time being spent on Catechesis, with some remaining spare time on further study in my chronic illness, writing this, and family. Sometimes a few small social hellos in my house with friends when my body isn't crashing out. My number one goal is to be baptised and confirmed in the Church by the end of 2025. And then somehow bring my antogonistic family over once they know about my faith. I'll write up a synopsis of the story sometime soon. I think I'll probably crash over the next week having trying to set up all these subscription and financial donation things and where to publish the story. But I will be back. In the meantime here's a donation link: ko-fi.com/tomcrusader Also please do not donate if you cannot afford it! Donate to your church and such first. And people you know in person in need.

I am looking forward to returning to the continent where I’ve experienced so many moments of my life. May this journey be an occasion for us to open our hearts to one another, strengthen our communion as brothers and sisters, and renew our commitment to proclaiming the Gospel with joy.  #Uruguay #Argentina #Peru

Was there a great apostasy in the first 300 years of Christianity? When I read the early Christian martyrs, the truth comes clear to me. I do not find men and women of a great apostasy. I find no trace of one. I find men and women who walked into the arena with a courage that was not their own, to be consecrated to their Lord and to bear witness with their blood that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the King of Kings. No one can read the letters of Ignatius and doubt that he was a servant of God. Chained and marched toward Rome to face lions, he begged the churches not to rescue him. He asked only to be ground like wheat so that he might be found the pure bread of Christ. So when someone asks why I do not accept the traditional LDS teaching that a great apostasy swept the church after the apostles died, my answer is these witnesses. Polycarp, who told Rome he had served Christ eighty and six years and could not blaspheme his King. Ignatius. Felicity, who gave birth in a Carthage prison and two days later met the lions and the sword beside Perpetua. And so many others whose names only God remembers. I count among them the Christians who stayed behind during the Plague of Cyprian, nursing the sick and the dying, pagan and believer alike, while others fled. Many caught the sickness and died of it. These were martyrs. They were not living in apostasy. They were living the fullest expression of Christianity the world has ever seen.

Friends, in just two days, Christians were murdered on two continents. On Friday, gunmen opened fire on a funeral at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Karak, Jordan, and killed nine people. On Saturday, armed men attacked Orthodox churches and homes in Oromia, Ethiopia, and killed more than forty. These are not statistics. They are our brothers and sisters, members of the mystical Body of Christ. When Saul set out to destroy the Church, the risen Jesus asked him, “Why are you persecuting me?” The Lord is still being persecuted in these victims of anti-Christian violence. Christianity is by far the most persecuted religion in the world today. Those of us who worship in comfort have to ask what the deaths of these martyrs demand of us. At the very least, they demand that we pray for them, learn their names, press our leaders to act, and refuse to look away. The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church.

Abortion is not health care. Abortion is a devastating loss of life. A death sentence. Pronounced by a desperate or dismissive mother. Carried out by a diabolical physician and industry capitalizing on darkness. It is not something to be protected and promoted. – at Cresson, PA

Mine is a bit different. Whenever lustful memories pop into my head, I try my best to pray for the conversion of the women in those memories and of all sex workers. I got this idea from St. Nonnus. He was responsible for the conversion of St. Pelagia, a famous prostitute in Antioch. When she passed by, the other bishops would close their eyes, but St. Nonnus looked at her and even said she was beautiful. At the same time, he grieved over her soul. He even blamed himself and the other bishops for taking less care of their own souls than she took of her body. She was shocked to hear this and attended his sermon about heaven and hell the following Sunday. From then on, she was completely changed. She sold everything, was baptized by St. Nonnus, and fled to Jerusalem to live as a hermit till her death. St. Nonnus and St. Pelagia, pray for us!
You can ask your guardian angel to delete lustful memories from your mind. Most Catholics have no idea. Here's the prayer 🧵

I have another prayer request. I tend to focus and flip out over things and I was wondering if you could pray for my brother’s surgery. He has the same heart defect as his daughter who is awaiting surgery. This surgery is because of his fall off of a ladder but he’s never had anesthesia and it’s more dangerous with a heart defect 🫠 so naturally I’m all worked up, because that’s what I do… God help me..It’s Thursday if you could keep him in prayer for no complications please. He’s my best friend besides my husband and I love him very much. Thanks for being so kind about my prayer requests the past week, it’s been a hard time.

St. Raphael, healer of the sick, pray for us. 🕊️ St. Raphael the Archangel is invoked for all who are sick in soul or body, that they may be healed, as Tobias’s father was healed. “O Raphael, Celestial Medicine, companion of travelers and healer of the sick! Guide us safely through the perils of this life, and cure the wounds of our souls, that we may enter into the eternal joy of the Lord.” Hear more of the Sisters’ chant on our first album, Lumen, out January 15. 💿 Pre-order now and download two chants instantly. sistersofaquinas.bandcamp.co…

The most moving part of all of Saint Augustine’s works is when his mother (St Monica) dies, and he requests whoever is reading to pray for her It’s beautiful knowing that he probably didn’t realize just how many people would actually read it

Novena to St. Raphael the Archangel Day 9 In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Glorious Archangel Saint Raphael, great prince of the heavenly court, you are illustrious for your gifts of wisdom and grace. You are a guide of those who journey by land or sea or air, consoler of the afflicted, and refuge of sinners. I beg you, assist me in all my needs and in all the sufferings of this life, as once you helped the young Tobias on his travels. Because you are the medicine of God, I humbly pray you to heal the many infirmities of my soul and the ills that afflict my body. I especially ask of you the favor (mention request here…) and the great grace of purity to prepare me to be the temple of the Holy Spirit. Amen. St. Raphael, of the glorious seven who stand before the throne of Him who lives and reigns, Angel of health, the Lord has filled your hand with balm from heaven to soothe or cure our pains. Heal or cure the victim of disease, and guide our steps when doubtful of our ways. Amen In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. catholicnovenaapp.com/novena…

Friends — a quick invitation, no strings attached. Catholics in the U.S. are praying a novena right now, Oct 22-30. A novena is simply nine days of prayer for a particular intention — it comes from Acts 1, where Mary and the apostles prayed together for the nine days between the Ascension and Pentecost. This one is the Respect Life Novena. Each day has a different intention, a short reflection, and the same simple prayers: the Lord’s Prayer, three Hail Marys, and the Glory Be. Today we prayed that every life be protected from conception to natural death. Tomorrow we pray specifically for unborn children, that they be protected in law and welcomed in love. I’m inviting you because this is ground we already share: that God knows each child before He forms them in the womb (Jeremiah 1:5, Psalm 139), that Mary said yes to an unexpected child, and that every life is a gift, not an accident. Pray it in your own way, at your own time — it takes about five minutes. You’d be very welcome.

The Catholic Church has been against abortion since the beginning. The Didache, a handbook written around AD 100, says “you shall not murder a child by abortion”.

Unfortunately, my breathing has worsened overnight, and my oxygen levels have dropped. I've contacted fire dispatch, and EMS is on the way to assess me and determine whether I need to go to the ER. I suspect that, with the chronic condition I deal with, they will take me to the ER. Without my iPhone, I won't have any way to contact anyone or provide updates until I get home. I also have no idea how I'll arrange transportation home afterward. That's honestly frightening. Please keep me in your prayers.🥹
I'm very anxious tonight and really need some prayers. I had to take my iPhone to the Apple Store for a problem that developed. They have to keep it overnight, so I'm home without a phone. I managed to afford an Uber home, but I'll need to figure out the cost of getting back there tomorrow to pick it up. Unfortunately, we're also having a storm with blowing dust here in Arizona, and it's triggered my severe asthma. I've used my emergency inhaler and am using my nebulizer. But I'm having a hard time breathing and may need to go to the ER overnight. It took me over an hour to figure out how to contact emergency services without a working phone. I finally found an app that lets me call the local fire dispatch number over Wi-Fi, and a very kind police dispatcher explained how to get an ambulance if necessary. But Lord, it's scary. I'm autistic, I've been dealing with burnout for years, and after hours at the Apple Store and everything else today, I'm completely overwhelmed and overloaded. I'm trying not to have an anxiety attack on top of the asthma. I'm home alone. I'm frightened. I'm exhausted. And I'm trying not to cry because crying will only make my breathing worse. This effing sucks. I just need some prayers and a few kind words tonight, so I know I'm not alone. Please!🥹
