Not sure @kobebryant collectors will get too excited about this one ... but there’s pretty much nothing I’d rather show 10-year-old me if I had a time machine. You are too much, @PaniniAmerica!!!
Mavs within 20 and, perhaps more remarkably, Dwight Powell remains available to join the Dallas rally according to the NBA’s official press row stats monitors:
Rockets 100, Mavericks 76 as we open the fourth quarter.
Houston has lost eight straight Opening Nights believe it or not.
Also … is this score real?
My sources in the NBA statistical community — meaning I asked @keerthikau — say Houston had eight first-half dunks.
Felt like 18 … with Kevin Durant throwing down two of them.
Halftime: Rockets 70, Mavericks 38

Wrote in the Sunday Best notes about Zion Williamson’s determination to hoist more 3s this season after attempting just four treys — total — in 2025-26.
He’s already splashed a couple tonight.
The story: tinyurl.com/4d74y3tc
What a way to go into halftime. Crowd was buzzing after Zion made a previous three-pointer, then he got a look from the left wing at about 28 feet and nailed that one too. #Pelicans 66-56
The Rockets just ran a glorious 60 years of team history piece on the in-arena video board set to Aerosmith’s Dream On and I sure hope someone posts it because it was damn good. This incurable NBA nostalgist loved every second.
What @JakeLFischer said …
Micah Peavy also cleared waivers today at 5 PM ET after Memphis waived both Peavy and Walter Clayton Jr. to get down to the league-maximum 15 standard contracts.
Sean Pedulla is also in the mix for Sacramento’s open two-way spot, along with Dalton Knecht, as we reported on today’s @BleacherReport stream. Sounds like Micah Peavy, Knecht and Pedulla are under consideration for several overlapping teams, including Toronto for all three.
Just a tremendous teammate and pillar of the network. The loss of Stosh Cienki is unbelievably sad and can only imagine how hard this crushing news and the passing of Dan “The Duke” Davis is hitting the @ESPNRadio family.
Longtime ESPN Radio producer Stosh Cienki has sadly passed away at 52. He spent over two decades in Bristol and was loved behind the scenes at @espnradio. Colleagues remembered one of the network's most positive forces and steady professionals.

Walter Clayton Jr. is not only here in Houston already but will be active for the Mavericks tonight in their season opener.
Walter Clayton Jr. is on the floor fresh off signing a two-way with the Mavs.
Dusty May on his prior relationship with the No. 18 pick from the 2025 NBA draft:
“He unofficially visited us at FAU so I’ve known him for a long time and then he was my son’s roommate at Florida, so very familiar with Walt.”
Mavericks coach Dusty May says his son Jack, now a Mavericks staffer, was newly signed Walter Clayton Jr.’s college roommate at Florida.
I’m told former Rockets two-way guard Sean Pedulla has also cleared waivers and is fielding fresh interest on a two-way pact elsewhere.
Walter Clayton Jr., as stated, has already committed to joining Dallas and Dalton Knecht is among this group of new free agents drawing interest, league sources say, from multiple teams pitching the former Laker on a two-way deal.
Dwight Powell, Dalton Knecht, Kevin Porter Jr., Koby Brea and Dallas-bound Walter Clayton Jr. have all cleared waivers, @TheSteinLine has learned.

Walter Clayton Jr. is scheduled to clear waivers today at 5 PM ET.
Teams interested in Clayton — barring an unexpected claim on his $4.2 million salary for 2026-27 — project 2025’s No. 18 overall pick to join Dallas on a two-way pact after clearing.

The Warriors in a statement on Kristaps Porziņģis’ status say “they are not going to comment on trade speculation or reports regarding his health-related matter or future” but concede that they “are not anticipating Kristaps being around the team in the immediate future.”

The Kings also covet Walter Clayton Jr. after pursuing him via trade over the weekend, but league sources say it is understood now is that the former No. 18 overall pick is likely to land in Dallas if he clears waivers.
