Two years of building with the partners who put these machines to work, to get a complicated task done safely and at a quality a crew can use.
Some of the team behind our autonomous excavators on what that took, and what comes next.
Full video below.
Bedrock Robotics CEO @bsofman explains how self-driving excavators could boost construction productivity by 80% while reducing workplace injuries and deaths:
"Most contractors have a hard time filling even one shift, much less going two shifts or three shifts."
"With these systems, you’ll soon be able to fuel up a machine at the end of the day and let it go an extra shift overnight, and now you’ve boosted your productivity by oftentimes 60, 70, 80%."
"It also happens to be the most dangerous profession. Owners oftentimes won’t even allow the contractors to run at night. When you have systems that operate at superhuman levels of safety, you can very comfortably do the extra shift overnight."
"You can start compressing projects by many months."

Today we’re announcing a $600M Series C, co-led by @CapitalG and @emergencecap, to bring fully autonomous machines to more job sites across the U.S.
We want autonomous equipment to become beautifully unremarkable, as ordinary on a job site as GPS or grade control.
Few industries are more fundamental to America's future than construction. Yet persistent skilled labor shortages and limited equipment capacity constrain our ability to build at the scale our country needs.
When 8VC led @BedrockRobotics Series A last year, we believed bringing autonomy to heavy equipment could fundamentally change the economics of construction, unlocking new levels of productivity and expanding what skilled crews can accomplish.
Just over a year later, Bedrock's fully autonomous excavators are already performing paid work on live commercial job sites, marking a major milestone in bringing physical AI into the real economy. With a rapidly growing customer base and deployments expanding nationwide, the team is demonstrating how quickly this technology can move from technical breakthrough to industrial scale.
Thrilled to continue backing @bsofman, @kevinmpeterson1 and team as they announce their $600M Series C to scale autonomous construction nationwide and help usher in a new era of American industrial capacity!

Since August, Bedrock-equipped excavators have been doing paid, fully autonomous work on live commercial job sites. Today we’ve raised $600 million to bring that to a lot more of them.

Thinking a lot about the @ElizabethHolmes doc that just came out. The movie is good…but the whole argument kind of all revolves around the idea that investors in venture don’t understand that founders are radically optimistic, that people who are radically outliers would not be extremely weird, and that @per_asp3ra wouldn’t 1. Be under extreme mental pressure 2. Feel anger about what’s going on in his life and 3. Look out for the financial best interest of his significant other. As someone who’s been blessed with my experiences of seeing a lot of different sides of this industry I think it’s actually worth seeing more of it unpacked.
When I was in highschool I got to meet with a billionaire and he gave me the advice “people in your shoes think the only way to get a leg up is to swing for the fences. You should get a job. It lets you swing a lot fucking harder”. It was actually materially beneficial to my life.
Lots of people giving you advice have a safety net.
"follow your passion"
"dont sell out"
"stay true to your art"
super easy to say if your parents will bail you out.
if you are a normal person-
IGNORE THAT. GET PAID. DO WHAT IT TAKES.
It will be long nights, burn out, doing the jobs no one wants to do. doing shit your friends dont understand.
if you are lucky, maybe your kids can be artists or whatever.
but you need to lock in and get your ass to work

maybe i’m naive, but i still believe relationships should be about genuinely wanting to see each other win…not constantly calculating what someone can do for you.
the transactional nature of some people will always disappoint me.

Five years ago, I launched a venture firm to little fanfare. Few in venture had heard of us, and even fewer believed the thesis
