Raja is leaving the St. Louis Zoo!
Raja was the first elephant ever born at the zoo back in 1992. No word where he's headed.
Zoo guests can sign a super-sized farewell card for Raja this weekend.

NASA just shared this insane new shot of the Grand Canyon from space đź’Ą
From orbit, the Grand Canyon still looks immense—a vast, winding scar sliced into the Colorado Plateau by the Colorado River over roughly 5–6 million years. Stretching 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide, and more than a mile deep, its layered walls and dramatic depth remain unmistakable even from hundreds of miles above Earth.
Yet the view is also a quiet reminder of scale: what feels monumental to us on the ground shrinks into a single, striking detail when seen against the full curve of the planet.
.@MoDOT Director says the cost to replace the speed limit signs along 325 miles of rural interstate is approximately $50,000. #moleg @FOX2now fox2now.com/news/missouri/mo…

Fallstreak hole over Chilton County this morning. Here’s what’s happening...
That cloud layer is made of *supercooled* water droplets — liquid water colder than freezing that hasn’t turned to ice yet. When something disturbs the layer (often a jet climbing or descending through it), a few droplets finally freeze. Those ice crystals grow rapidly, get heavy, and fall out of the cloud as faint streaks — the “fallstreaks.”
As the crystals fall, they leave that clean hole behind.
It’s completely harmless, produces no weather at the ground, and usually fills back in within an hour or so. These form in exactly the kind of rippled high cloud decks (cirrocumulus and altocumulus) we’ve seen today.

Here’s some fun for your Monday. Non-meteorological things may show up on radar (birds, bugs, wind farms, smoke, cars, etc.). In this case, likely birds. There are also some sprinkles in SW MO and eastern KS. We use correlation coefficient to differentiate raindrops vs birds.

ALT Side by side radar image showing reflectivity on the left with some dark green areas. On the right is correlation coefficient which is used to determine the roundness of a radar return. Red is more round, blue is not round. There is a smattering of red and blue marking the difference between meteorological and non-meteorological radar returns.
