#Healthcare during unfettered #COVID means my kid with autoimmune disease just had to sit for hours amongst sick people in urgent care with his broken foot. Y'all, this is bullsh*t. Immunocompromised kids with immune disorders should be able to safely get care for a broken bone.

Disabled friends, we're looking for someone London based and independent of our organisation to participate in a 45 minute research interview next week via Zoom for a one off payment of £60. Especially like to hear from a Deaf or Blind/VI person. #DisabilityTwitter DM for info.

The billionaires at Davos are "learning to live with Covid" in its true sense: ventilation, HEPA filters, FFP2 respirators, mandatory PCR tests. Now the rest of us deserve to be #DavosSafe

I got home from an event last night and cried because, more than any other, it cemented for me that part of my life is over. It was a lovely event - queer, left-wing, arty - and there were about 60 people in a small pub and I was the only one in a mask. 1/

This next week, as folks plan and prepare to meet and negotiate interaction with families in the midst of a disaster that many refuse to acknowledge exists, will be some of the hardest days. For me, I ground myself in these things: 1/

When COVID mitigations were lifted I had to shift from protecting myself from a virus to protecting myself from people. Friends, family, unmasked people, symptomatic people, medical people. That sense of being excluded from society, of being an outlier grows stronger by the day.

Messages of solidarity matter, but only if there is also genuine action being taken. Disabled people deserve equitable access every day of the year. Lived experience of #disability is a valuable source of strength and expertise that should never be ignored. #IDPWD #IDPD2022

Not all disabilities are immediately apparent. For some people, their disability may be more apparent one day and less so the next. It may vary depending on the support systems in place. No one should have to hide their #disability. No one should have to "prove" it either.

The #DisabilityPayGap highlights many things, including a lack of understanding on the benefits of a diverse and inclusive team. Disabled people have lived experience and insight that matters. We place it at the heart of everything we do. #DisabilityTwitter

Had someone say recently they were concerned with how much stress my Covid precautions cause me. Actually, they REDUCE stress. It’s the knowledge that others aren’t taking precautions that stresses me…and makes me deeply concerned for our future.

My doctor: "Cait, you 100% need physical therapy. But COVID numbers are on the rise, and it is just not safe for you to go in-person. Here are some at-home exercises that maybe might possibly help." Your indoor maskless lunches are ruining my life. 🫠

It's important to remember not all disabilities and illnesses are apparent at a glance. Some may be more visible some days compared to others. Some people may need accommodations some days and not others. Disability has no "look". #InvisibleDisabilitiesWeek #DisabilityTwitter

Fun fact about me: I use a ‘teenagers’ wheelchair. It’s tiny. 23inches wide. If I’m struggling to get through these “gaps”, they are completely impassable for most wheelchair users and visually impaired people with dogs. Pavements must be kept clear enough for pedestrians.
