a real question from a child to their parent: “When David killed Goliath, God was sad, right?” It’s wisdom I continue to chew over years later.

Our character—our actions—show the truth about what we actually believe. It doesn’t matter what we say we believe when our actions tell another story. Following Jesus produces lives of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, & self-control.

Happy Sunday, friends! Looking for a Jesus-centered message? Here’s what I shared last week: • What is “church?” • What was the first church like? • What can we learn from them? The First Church - Acts 2:36-47 youtu.be/7IOvyWkkkS4

Vote to abolish ICE. Vote to stand up to Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Vote to reject the economic war being waged against Canada. Vote to reject the bombing of children. Vote to reject the antichrist “Christian Nationalism” movement. Vote like Jesus is watching.

There has never been a war that met Augustine’s just war criteria. Also, the only just war is a war waged by Jesus. And he didn’t.

Reminder: All true Biblical literalists will look like pirates. Or at least that’s what Jesus says.

It is through Jesus that we understand the Scriptures more fully. Jesus is the fullest revelation of God. No-one has ever seen God, but Christ who is himself God has made him known. It is through Christ that we most fully discover what God is like. ~ @JosiahHawthorne

There’s no world in which the adjective “Christian” can effectively modify a noun like “nationalist” while also referring to following Jesus of Nazareth. It’s sorta like how awesome/awful & terrific/terrifying used to be synonyms til they grew to mean somethin totally different.

“Christian” as a term has become entirely void of any meaningful connection to knowing and following Jesus. And, honestly, it’s been that way for a long time.

I think it’s fair to say that for much of Christianity today, reading our Bibles and praying everyday has not resulted in us grow, grow, grow-ing in the love of Jesus.

The reign of Christians has most often resulted in the martyrdom of those who follow Christ. All while calling them “heretics” for insisting upon the Jesus way.
Let’s not pretend the reign of Christians and the reign of Christ are somehow one and the same.

“For every high profile would-be Christian leader who has led all-too-willing followers into a battle based on lies, arrogance, greed, & a lust for power, there are [those] who have heeded the words of Jesus about those who want to be leaders needing to be the servant of all.”

For American Christianity, the faith isn’t in Jesus but in human power, violence, & dominion.
If we Christians in America need Christianity to be the dominant religion, our faith isn’t in Jesus, it’s in ordinary human power.
