Insofar as death in general is the result of sin, Christ suffered a consequence he did not merit. But the crucifixion was an *INjustice* Bad explanations of the atonement lead to distortions of God's character, which leads to Christians holding a warped definition of "justice."

There’s no world in which the adjective “Christian” can effectively modify a noun like “nationalist” while also referring to following Jesus of Nazareth. It’s sorta like how awesome/awful & terrific/terrifying used to be synonyms til they grew to mean somethin totally different.

The love of guns is idolatry. And America keeps offering blood sacrifices to this god of theirs.

There’s no justice in killing. There’s no justice in murder. There’s no justice in violence. There’s no justice in war.

The way of Jesus has never been conquest. The way of Columbus was anti-Christ. Christians should be at the forefront of the decolonization movement. Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day!

In Matthew 25, Jesus said how we treat prisoners is how we treat him. I’m convinced we would execute Jesus all over again if he showed up today. And we would probably livestream it. As Jesus said, whatever we do to inmates is what we do to him too.

Everybody wants to quote the Bible. Don’t nobody wanna follow Jesus.

The funniest part to me is them citing Levitical laws. Okay, do you follow those laws? Are you going to observe shabbat tonight that any of that convent matters to you? Maybe there's a whole context to Christianity that isn't just cherry picking convenient verses?

We prefer imagining a Jesus who loves the same people that we love, & who hates the same people that we hate. So we use the Bible to hide from the Jesus way—because otherwise we’d have to love our enemies, repent of our biases, deny ourselves, take up our crosses, & follow Him.

This. I hate all of the implications of this, yet here I am.

There exists a martyrdom of those who offer their lives in a single moment, and the more hidden martyrdom of those who give their lives day after day. This is exactly what all Christians are called to do: to give our lives with love, every day.

Christ's death was NOT "justice" for our crimes against God. God's justice cannot be satisfied by penalty being meted out on the innocent. Proverbs 17:15 Christ was innocent, killed by a corrupt government official to satisfy a bloodthirsty crowd. That is not justice. Acts 2:23

The God of the Old testament and the God of the New testament are the same, they did not change. Neither did the concept of Justice. The only thing that changed was the covenant. Show me in the New testament where it says anything that death is not appropriate justice for horrible crimes. You do realize that in order for Jesus to be resurrected he had to die first. His death was justice for our crimes against God. That did not negate the necessity for justice, it demonstrated it. Otherwise what is hell for, unless you're in annihilationist.

The followers of Jesus follow Jesus. The one who said to love our neighbours as ourselves. Love our enemies. Turn the other cheek. Go the extra mile. Do good to those who persecute you. Put away our swords. Biblical justice is about leveling, not about vengeance.

The greatest miracle of the Early Church was being able to preach prior to the invention of the highlighter
It’s been a minute… This morning I’ll be preaching for the first time since May 17th… the longest I’ve gone without preaching in over a decade. I don’t usually use much for notes, but thought that I could use some training wheels to help me find the groove again.

At this point, the list of things I’m just not gon argue about anymore is longer than the human genome. You just gon have to be right. Here’s a cheat sheet tho: if you bout to hide a bigotry behind “scripture/the Bible is clear,” take your trophy & go on. I’m unavailable, lol

The Southern Baptist Convention made no such exchange. They kept their racism and the sexism has been there the entire time. They just change the levels on the mixer every few years.
It is not surprising that the Southern Baptist denomination, created so that slave owners could become missionaries, would exchange their racism for sexism. Utterly sad. But not surprising.
