World-leading cardiac surgeon Asif Hasan was surrounded by the children who received the gift of life thanks to his unerring skills at the emotional climax of another memorable Pride of Britain ceremony. 🥹
Now 70 years old, Mr Hasan has just retired after 35 years of service at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne, but just after receiving his Lifetime Achievement Award, he had an extra special surprise: a cast of patients who would not be alive without him. ❤️

On Friday 21st October 1966 one of the 116 children killed in the Aberfan disaster was a nine-year-old boy called Paul Jones.
When his body was recovered, they found a small wallet in his back pocket…

It was another lively start to Labour party conference at Goodison Park this morning, with the Lobby beating the UK Parliamentary Football Club 2-0 in their annual showdown.
Goals came from @MillardClothier of the Mail on Sunday and @TomSheldrickITV.
We love this conference tradition, and it’s a privilege to help organise it alongside @FootballAssoc.
Both teams had extra reason to bring their best, with football legend @reid6peter watching from the sidelines, and the incredibly important cause behind it all this year, @alzheimerssoc.
