On Monday, we were privileged to engage in a strategic meeting with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives (MTIC) to discuss the recognition of social enterprises within the ongoing review of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Policy and explore pathways for stronger collaboration between government and the social enterprise sector. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Patrick J. Mugisha, Commissioner for Business Development and Quality Assurance (BDQA), with participation from Mr. Johnson Abitekaniza, Assistant Commissioner for Training and Business Skills Development (MSMEs), Mr. Vincent O Okema, Senior MSME Expert, Enterprise-Training & Quality Assurance Department and other members of MTIC The FUSE team was led by Luganda David, Head of Partnerships and Development, together with Birungi Britah, Communications Officer Discussions focused on FUSE’s role as the national umbrella body for social enterprises and how social enterprises can be better recognised and supported within the MSME Policy framework. We look forward to the next steps in this important engagement with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, other relevant ministries, and key actors in the social enterprise ecosystem as we work together to build a more enabling environment for social enterprises in Uganda. #socialenterpriseuganda @LugandaDavid @BritahBirungi
