Discord is Threatening to Shutdown BotGhost: The Enshittification of Discord. Discord has given us a sudden ultimatum: change how our platform works by July 14 or face total shutdown. They claim our use of bot tokens violates their policy, even though this is standard practice across platforms like MEE6, Replit, Dyno, Glitch, and more. No alternative method exists. No roadmap. No real opportunity to comply. This decision threatens: -7.5 years of development - Millions of hours of work from our team and community - Over 3 million bots created - 100M+ commands run - Countless classrooms, servers, and communities All of it is at risk due to vague rules and zero communication. BOTGHOST UPDATE hello all. still no update from discord as expected. with that in mind starting next week we will begin implementing new features and systems! these past two weeks i have spent cleaning up the code base and streamlining our systems to make implementing new things much easier (the codebase is 8 years old now). as we have been transparent over the past few months I thought why not carry that over to the features we were planning before this all happened. below is a rough order of things you can expect coming up and a rough ordering of when they will launch. - re-enabling of BotPanel to work with the new Auth system. - Clear all active bugs. we have a massive bug list internally to work through. we may also launch a new bug reporting system to streamline this process. - Fix up the support system and re-enable forums and CS rewards and new cs + mod applications. Also improve our billing + account support with new zendesk implementations. - New update: Components v2 into the builder - New Update: Music Implementation with events + action blocks. - BotPanel Update: Complete redesign of the page builder. - BotPanel Update: Monetization - BotGhost Mobile App Note these are major releases. smaller patches and features will most likely be launched during this time. also as people have asked our current plans are to remain premium only. we have no plans or any timeline on when this will change. so i have pushed a little update that now allows you to link MULTIPLE discord accounts to your new BotGhost account. this should fix any problems people have with the 'This bot already exists on another account' error they get when making new accounts. as part of that I have also added a new window that tells you what account the bot is on. for now currently just working on little bug fixes here and there. next week if still no response/action from Discord will start back up on new features etc etc. if you wanna see things put them here: botghost.iterance.ai/ and vote for features you want to see :)). thanks all

so new auth system is going well. i have fixed up the collab system as well which had some bugs. if anyone sees anything else please do report it :). will work on a system to 'relink' your account as some people are logging into wrong accounts etc etc.

new auth live as many have noticed the new auth system is now live. this will required you to login with either a google, twitter (x) or email account. once you have done so you have the option to link your old discord account to your new account. this will copy all settings over. PLEASE NOTE: THE LINKING SERVER IS ANOTHER SERVER. PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY :). if you notice any systems that used to work that now do not please do report it. if any mods/admins/cs find anything please report it so i can fix it easily :). thanks all once again for your patience.

so @discord_support have just banned our oauth client again silently. they also banned the account of the user it was associated with (once again silently). at this point we will just disable login for new users. anyone currently signed in will stay logged in. we are working hard on the new auth system and it should be done Tuesday AEST. as you can imagine its a massive change so needs thorough testing. every day it just shocks me how a multi billion dollar social media company can be run so poorly. how anyone can be expected to build or run their businesses on discord at this point is beyond me. i honestly feel bad for the engineers at discord who work hard and build a great product only for disgusting customer support/communications to tarnish and over shadow all their work. regardless will see everyone next week (assuming discord don't randomly do something cooked over the weekend).

holy imagine being the poor being who's job it is at discord to go into the office every morning log into botghost and disable our oauth silently. what a miserable existence

Update so @discord are now silently disabling our login oauth system. this is why some users were seeing the unknown application screen when trying to login. they are doing this with STILL not replying to any ticket/appeal/email/message. they are now just silently disabling things. i would like to again reiterate we have still not received any messaging or communication from Discord in the past 31 days. thankfully we are now working on and almost done with entirely new login systems independent of Discord entirely. this system will use email/google/twitter/apple to login instead with a system to link your discord user id to your new account. once this is complete we will be fully separated from Discord and can be labeled as a service provider as we will be effectively operating as an API wrapper for our users. as an aside. we have also filled official complaints with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission accc.gov.au/ on advice from lawyers within Australia. these complaints mainly are around discord's Misuse of Market Power (Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), Section 46), Unconscionable Conduct (Australian Consumer Law, Section 21) and Unreasonable Delay and Communications Failures. ironically Discord have already been sued by attorneys offices in the US for these exact same things in the past. if any Australian based consumers want more info on this please DM me. i will have more info for you all once our new login systems are up. accc.gov.au/

no update from discord. a lot of people are also asking if i am planning on releasing a new discord service/anything related to discord bots. the answer is 100% no. current plans are to wait until the 31st to see if we get a reply and go from there. if no reply will go ahead with a refund system.

hello this response to our official appeal was received Friday PST time. sorry for the late update as we have been handling another personal situation regarding this entire ordeal. @discord have denied the appeal on the grounds that we did not promptly notify or remediate the two security issues we faced. this is obviously unbelievably untrue as both issues were fixed within sub 2hours and my average response time to discord has been within a few hours of receiving their message. in contrast they have taken on average 5 days to respond with their response completely ignoring and not making use any information I provide them. they also allege we failed to provide accurate and complete information regarding our access to API data in a 'timely' matter. once again the list we provided contained around 1,400,00 bot ids and was simply just a mongo export of our bots collection. it was provided by their deadlines. they have only reset 31,000 bots of which countless have never been used on botghost. if they are so concerned about security why do they not communicate with me to accurately reset the bots? it seems beyond clear at this point that no matter what we do or say nothing will be enough and they are intent on shutting us down by any means. at this point we are going to put together one last appeal. for some reason they have extended the deadline for us to 'comply' to July 31st. why they have done this I have no idea. a lot of people have been trying to suggest new ways of us operating to get around discord banning us from soliciting tokens. botghost at its core is a no code platform for people getting into bot development. we want to create the simplest way to get started so solutions involving generating code, creating an app or any other technical solutions are not something we are looking to do. we are simply asking discord to apply their TOS fairly and allow us to do what every other platform on discord is doing. I also strongly suspect that no matter what solution we would have come up with would have been met with some other interpretation of their TOS to shut it down. in terms of the servers. we are shutting down the bot servers today until we receive another response. it is simply not financially viable to run our platform without subscription payments and new subscribers. we have had over 7 years to build up to this point so removing all payments suddenly is causing us to run at a tremendous loss finically. thank you for your understanding.

it seems @discord is largely done with reseting tokens judging by their api stability. as it currently stands they have missed 41% of active online bots. i have attached a screenshot of our monitoring bots which have not been reset even though they are active in random clusters. they have also reset a large number of bots belonging to people who have never used that bot on botghost. this even includes some of my own bots lol. it seems they have not used or referenced my list at all which is extremely confusing. how they have created their own list is beyond me. in terms of the appeal no response has still been given. thanks

obviously no update today from @discord due to it being the weekend still in Cali where the discord office is.

as promised i have switched bots back online. as part of this i have removed all premium restrictions throughout the dashboard and paused all stripe payments. this will continue until discord take action one way or the other. we will continue to update daily about any communication we do (and dont) receive in the server from @discord. this will only go on until about July 14th as pausing payments and running our services unrestricted is estimated to cost approximately $4000-$5000 USD weekly with payments being paused. hopefully Discord will actually communicate this week. have fun. update.botghost.com/
