Here's a thread on the Whispers and why they are exactly what the game is telling us that they are.
As well as how that connection bridges into Rebirth.
JP script referenced, as well as both Ultimanias.
Especially since Aerith's death has been one of the most famous spoilers in gaming since 1997. Pretending to rewrite destiny for three games just to end up in the exact same spot isn't "preserving a tragedy" it's just manufacturing fake suspense for purely commercial gains.
I'm just saying it's the same group of people that are insisting Aerith die (and stay dead) for the plot and then turning around and saying "finally disc 2 we can get to the real shit."
Nearly 7 years after the launch of the "changing destiny" storyline, there are still people mad that some fans want to change destiny.
Gripe with the writers, not the fans, if you don't like the implications in the games.
So we have Stamp and Whisper sightings after the LSS.
Oh Square Enix, I hope your backloading of explanations won't be rushed like Remake and Rebirth was.

Fam, Sephiroth is the devil. He resents his own fall, so he seeks to tempt Cloud into falling just as he did. It's temptation. Just as Satan can never prevail without deception, Sephiroth cannot prevail against Cloud, so he instead tricks Cloud into defeating himself.
I do think Rebirth has a problem with only about 1/5 of the main story actually mattering to the main story progression. The rest of the game is kind of just character beats and getting there.
Can't stress enough how good of a game Re9 is until you get to Raccoon City and it takes a nose dive.
And it's funny because a return to Raccoon City should've been a home run and it's just bleh.
