Virunga National Park is pleased to announce that community trackers have observed a new birth in the Mapuwa family. Kagofero has given birth to an infant whose sex has not yet been determined.
This is the second birth recorded in the Mapuwa family since January 2026. The family now numbers 28 individuals and is the third-largest mountain gorilla family monitored in the Park. This birth is the 19th recorded in the Park this year.
We warmly thank the European Union, UNESCO, and our gorilla adopters for their continued support of mountain gorilla conservation in the Park.

Congrats! I can't wait to watch this.
I wanted to remind everyone that you can watch the movie, AN AMISH MURDER, which is based on the first book in the Kate Burkholder mystery series, SWORN TO SILENCE, on Amazon Prime (free with your Prime subscription!) You can also see it on Kanopy.com (through your local library.) It’s a well-done mystery staring Neve Campbell as Kate. Hope you enjoy! tinyurl.com/mrxsewvt
