Story on @cbsaustin at 10 pm! I had a blast at the @TravisAudubon Purple Martin Party Friday night! It was incredible, and volunteer Shelia Hargis was a great interview! Here’s what you need to know: if you want to attend the last official purple Martin party - it’s tonight (Saturday, August 3rd) from 8-9 pm at La Frontera in Round Rock, yes, it’s a bird watching event in the shopping center parking lot! Go to Sundance & Parker and you’ll see everyone with lawn chairs (for comfort) and hats (just in case a bird accidentally poops on you - I didn’t get hit and I was shooting video in the flight path). There are volunteers like Shelia to answer all your questions and hundreds of thousands of purple martins putting on a show!! Plus, @AmysIceCreams is scooping purple ice cream 🍦 💜! If you want to go on your own, the birds like to party whether it’s an official event or not! You can go ANY evening for the next few weeks. If you don’t want to go, I sure hope you’ll watch my story tonight on @cbsaustin ! #purplemartins #notbats #travisaudubon #birding

In addition to protecting migrating birds at night, during the day we can help birds by making our windows visible and providing shelter, food, and water! Creating bird friendly spaces in our communities will help birds on their journey. #LightsOutTexas

First day of Lights Out, Texas! Migration season has started. 1 in 3 birds migrating in the U.S. will pass through Texas this spring. Turn off your non-essential lights between 11pm-6am to help our feathered friends who travel at night. #lightsouttexas

Thank you, @KirkPWatson, for your commitment to reducing Austin's carbon footprint!
Latest #WatsonWire: It’s time to put the brakes on the 2030 Resource, Generation and Climate Protection Plan for AE and scrub all the options. As part of this, there also needs to be a very real & robust focus on getting us out of the Fayette Power Plant. mailchi.mp/a08ae87047c6/wats…

FLAP volunteer Laurna was concerned after seeing birds colliding with her neighbor’s glass railings, so she offered her services to make them bird-safe with an oil-based paint marker. We love the result! Bird-safe glass can be so beautiful.
