Oba of Benin is trending because some Benin indigenes are now claiming Lagos, following a 2016 clip of the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, which reignited an argument over the historical ownership of Lagos. Oba Akiolu said the first Oba of Lagos was a descendant of the Oba of Benin and described the Lagos royal tradition as ā€œpartly Benin and partly Yorubaā€. This video caused a rift as many believe that Lagos was originally occupied by the Awori (a Yoruba clan). However, Benins’ point back to when the Benin Kingdom established a military base in Lagos which has led to another battle for the name ā€œEkoā€ One side believes Eko is connected to a Benin word meaning war camp because of Benin’s military presence, while Lagosians believe that Eko was coined from ā€œEreko,ā€ meaning farmland in Yoruba. During his 2016 coronation, the current Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, described himself as a direct descendant of Oranmiyan, the son of Oduduwa. A statement now used by the Yorubas to argue supremacy since the Oba is also from Ife. Which he is, based on multiple existing documents suggesting that the Oba of Benin got his crown from the Awni, Ife. Also, historian documents say the Benin Kingdom expanded to Lagos around 15th century, but only made progress in the 16th century under Oba Orhogbua and occupied Lagos Island (Oko) as a military base. Which they found not empty per se, as documentations confirm locals used it for farming and fishing settlements (Oko), Lagos state as a political unit did not exist then. The Benin Kingdom greatly influenced Lagos royal system. Historian record that, during the fight to take the mainland (Iddo) from the Awori, perhaps following a dispute, a great Benin commander, Aseru, was killed. An Awori chief, helped return his body to Benin, and found favour in Oba Orhogbua, who then gave him the authority to rule Eko. Oba Orhogbua sent him off with state sword, royal symbols, royal drum, and some Benin officials to assist him set up and rule Eko. This person was Ashipa, the first Oba of Lagos, he brought balance and merged Iddo & Eko, with the backing of Benin Kingdom., Which technically gave Benin Kingdom what you may call colonial power over Lagos as a whole for about 3 centuries. Before Oba Dosunmo reluctantly signed the signed the 1861 Treaty of Cession with Britain, after they threatened advanced military bombardment, ready to destroy Lagos and rebuild it unless he signed. By this time in 19th century, Lagos Kingdom had established fully, still connected to Benin but operated independently. (Not my words, you can research.) But bits of this have been argued, some believe Ashipa wasn’t a Yoruba prince, but an Edo, grandson of Oba Orhogbua. So his parentage isn’t definite. But, if the current Lagos Oba, Rilwan Akiolu say Ashipa is a descendant of Oba Orhogbua, we should all go with that. However, it is believed that the Lagos Oba dynasty is traced to Ashipa and by extension, Oba Orhogbua. According to Benin royal genealogy, Orhogbua was a descendant of Oranmiyan - Eweka I - .. Ozolua - Esigie - Orhogbua … Ewuare. Oranmiyan was a prince of the Oduduwa royal lineage and served as a major warrior/defender of Ife, Akogun (military commander), not a palace servant like some claimed today. Just 48 is trending because Nigerians are shocked seeing Gambian youths shutdown the country protesting over ordinary 2-days blackout. Nigeria’s average electricity generation is 4,384MW. In Gambia it is a whopping 78MW, peaking at 106MW, which ~50% is imported. The crisis in Gambia started around April. When generation dropped, and usage surged, which the Gambian government blamed on fuel procurement, logistical constraints, and global supply disruptions. It advised conservation to avert a total blackout. But as the country entered the dry season in June, the blackout began and worsened. Electricity demand surged, while the government blamed the weather, reduced hydropower output and technical problems. Last week it got worse, partial blackout, became total. With the heat reaching 35°c, no water, and food spoiling., on Monday 7 September, Gambians stormed the streets, burning tyres, blocking traffic, demanding better governance chanting ā€œBarrow Must Goā€ — Adama Barrow is the President. They took the protest to the official homes of President Barrow and the VP, Mohammed B.S. Jallow; clashed with police, destroyed properties and facilities belonging to the ruling party, resulting to the police dispersing them with tear gas and a ban on unauthorized protests. 11 persons were arrested, per Reuters. As the protest slowly metamorphosed from electricity demonstrations into a political demonstration, which protesters admitted was about the prolonged hardship. The President addressed the nation, directly acknowledged their concerns and promised that an additional 24MW will be added by October, along with a 50MW solar plant. Yet the protest continued. Nigerians are surprised and impressed by the rookie number of just 2 days of blackout that was enough to trigger a protest. Understandably so, because recently a community in Uli, Anambra State, had its electricity restored after 20yrs. Last month, Utagbe-Ogbe in Delta State also had electricity restored after 16 years of blackout. However, patriotic Nigerians rejected the Gambia-Nigeria comparison, arguing that Nigeria is 20x the size of Gambia. •• Tired of waiting? Blaqbonez finally opens up on his issue with Odumodu Blvck. A Summary of the 1hr18mins interview with Rufai Oseni. How OD tried blacklisting him from int’l gigs. How OD simped, demanded nudes from Blaq. - In 2023, both rappers met and liked a girl at an event. Eventually, she & Blaq had a FWB relationship for a year, almost throughout 2024. - Mid 2024 she asked for a break up, as their relationship had no direction. Blaq initially reluctant, but agreed. Yet she kept coming back, until she moved to UK. - Then she broke up again with Blaq, saying she is now seeing someone else. But this time her text seemed like a PR Press Release. Blaq suspected, asked to know the person, she refused to spill. He never thought it would be OD, cos she always said weird stuffs about him and how he always simped, took flowers to her work place. Blaq asked her friends too, they didn’t know whom, but confirmed it wasn’t OD. In August 2024, they finally ended the cycle of their FWB. Blaq blocked her as she won’t pick his calls or answer his questions. She hit him on iMessage, he blocked her again. Coincidentally they met 2 days later at a bar. Then was calm, and finally revealed she was with OD. There and then, Blaq again finally ended their relationship cordially. Both parties were good. 3 days later, Blaq’s Videographer tells him OD booked him to shoot his Diss to Blaq. Blaq was confused. After a while, Blaq texts OD to check up on him. OD blasts him, tells him to never call him again. Then the first wave of call harrasment started. First call OD asked if Blaq had anything he wanted to say. Blaq again confused. Asked what’s exactly our issue? ā€œI heard you are disturbing my babe.ā€ OD said, leaving Blaq more puzzled. Then he explained that he left the girl the moment he found out they were involved, out of respect. So Blaq thought they were cool. - Call ends. OD calls back, ā€œwhen last una fvckā€. Blaq refused to answer, cos it was a ridiculous question and he really wanted the matter to die. OD insisted, Blaq refused. Then OD said ā€œSince you won’t tell me, from today we are enemies.ā€ This was around August 2024. [A whileeee later - November, 2024] ā€œSo what were you guys doingā€ OD said in another call. Blaq finally picks, says, FWB. Then asks, when they started dating. OD refused to talk. OD asked ā€œhow many times una fvckā€ is it 10-15x, 15-30x or 40 upwards. A frustrated Blaq answered with ā€œyh 40 upwards.ā€ Blaq explained that, their relationship ended long ago, so if they started dating anytime around then and when she finally told him about OD, then there is really no reason for the drama. 5-mins after this call, the white elephant walked into the frey. — The girl kept spamming Blaq with short 3 seconds calls, in all, she’d yell ā€œLiarrrrrrrrrā€ and drop. Blaq ignored cos, he really didn’t want to get involved in their drama. November 25-26, 2024. Now OD and the girl, start spamming Blaq calls. He ignored. Then the girls friend nudged him to get on the 3-way call and settle things once. On the call, ā€œFirst what is the lie I lied?ā€ Blaq threw to the girl. She said, they were never intimate, just friends. Blaq confused had to open a dictionary to double check the term ā€œFWBā€ and ā€œIntimacyā€. Well, since she really insists they were never intimate. Blaq agreed. Just to let the matter end and regain his control of his phone. Then OD asked for proof of intimacy. End of PART1.
