A major new #ghoststory about some young people who get to know their way around the subject of death: tychy.wordpress.com/2021/10/… Set in #Edinburgh and then Leith. Despite the title it is perhaps nearer to Geoffrey Chaucer than to the (late, great) Douglas Adams.

Another person who has read the Eversheds report and identified the flaws... The allegations that NESO changed logs and reports to hide what went on were not substantiated... But various logs and reports are done in Word/Excel where changes over write previous content and there's no version control Meaning you can't tell if they were changed or not No evidence to support the allegation because the systems are literally set up such that you wouldn't be able to see if it was true (not saying thats the intention of the systems, just that it's how they work) Hardly compelling
Just how close did Britain's electricity grid come to collapse on 23 June? Allegations began circulating soon after that date of a cover-up by the National Energy Systems Operator (NESO). While external observers could see that something abnormal was happening, with the frequency of the grid falling below operational limits for several hours, NESO quickly denied that anything was wrong. They claimed that the grid was ‘not at risk’, an assertion which was repeated by energy minister Michael Shanks in the Commons. ✍️ Ross Clark Article | spectator.com/article/how-cl… | @RossjournoClark

This image, viewed over 6 million times and retweeted over 63,000 times, claims to show an elderly couple stripped down and robbed by rioters in France. The image is AI-generated, and was created with Google AI, as detected by SynthID watermarks in the image.

"Over half of the Houthi attacks since the war resumed have been against undefended locations." A particular concern in Saudi is that Trump resumes war with Iran next month and they wind up having to defend against attacks from all sides simultaneously wsj.com/world/middle-east/sa…

It isn't 'left wing' to destroy the public realm. These aren't just 'old buildings'. They belong to the whole community, often built through their collective resources and certainly maintained by them. Socialism, at least my tradition, is in part about conserving and strengthening the public realm for the common good. It is not about destruction. It shows appreciation for civic beauty and pride, a sense of history, connection with those before us, duty for those after us, the importance of place and belonging. The things that make life worth living, being available as widely as possible. Individualists destroy. Selfish utilitarians have no concern for such things. Anarchy breeds inequality, as those with means will shut themselves away and the rest are left to suffer.
Reactionaries more concerned with old buildings on fire than the disintegration of the social order under their beloved neoliberalism.

Policing operates much like fractional-reserve banking. Just as banks hold only a fraction of deposits in reserve because not everyone withdraws their money simultaneously, police departments maintain only a fraction of the officers needed to protect everyone simultaneously. Both systems rely on not everyone needing it at the same time. Just as banks are vulnerable to runs, police departments can be overwhelmed by simultaneous emergencies. Thus, strangely enough, the state’s capacity to provide protection depends on sufficiently few people needing it at the same time. Universal protection is promised, but its provision depends on demand never becoming universal. If ever I needed an image of government failure…

One thing that really stood out to me during the 2020 BLM riots was how much of the coverage ignored the many people, predominantly minorities, who had their lives and livelihoods destroyed. Their stories never fully got told.

Yeah, because France never had riots before mass immigration...Vance doesn't believe a word he's saying here, I doubt most people tweeting it really believe it either, it's just convenient to explain conflict internal to French society as an alien force. xitter.cf/JDVance/status/2111628…
Western liberals imported the third world into France and other countries in the name of diversity and compassion. They ignored fundamental questions of assimilation and compatibility. They were told it would lead to this and they didn't listen. I pray that France, a beautiful country of amazing people, will stop this madness before more of its landmarks burn. And I hope Americans are paying attention. This is the future congressional Democrats seek for your country.

There is a tendency to downplay, laugh about or even romanticise France’s habitual riots but they really are horrific. People, property and history all paying a high price for the country’s all too often descent into chaos. Said as an admirer of many other aspects of France.

Interestingly, the song "She's Lost Control" was originally titled "She's Lost the Remote Control", but Ian Curtis was convinced that it was too wordy.

A woman on #bbcqt had a pop at Stephen Kinnock’s family for doing well out of the EU. He was rather aggressive and contemptuous in response but she dealt well with his failed “gotcha” at the end. Why on Earth are Labour trying to dredge up Brexit bitterness all over again?

Would you like to debate me on this because lets be honest I might be 'shit' but you hate the working class your prejudice oozes out of you and I know all about that. I've been looked down on by far better people than you. I'm very very very familiar with class hatred by well heeled elites.
When 'class' is an alibi for being shit on race and colonialism. Very familiar with it.
