TIL about this bootstrapping scene for the first time. It's wild.
They are building a tower of languages, starting with a 256-byte hand-written binary, for building a complete Linux system.
Love how Guix is attempting to thwart the trusting trust attack:
"The goal is to start from a minimal, easily inspectable binary (which should be readable as source)"
"Guix bootstraps by using MesCC—the small C compiler that comes with Mes—to build TinyCC, which is used to build GCC 2.95.0, which then builds GCC 4.7.4."

More UI innovation from Marius Eriksen. I don't understand it at all, I love it!
mutable.org/manifold
That's not quite true, I understand it, but it's galaxy brain stuff. It feels kind of like Mycroftiv ANTS (Plan 9).
Marius Eriksen evolved Acme into something that can support more "modern" (anti)features!
Finally I can use LLMs in Acme (well, Apex). There is still hope for a bright future.

Huge drop in Google searches for various health disinformation topics following the Ukrainian strikes on Russian data centers.
It makes you wonder how much of the “turbo cancer, ivermectin” nonsense is really fueled by Russian bots, & how many Americans they’ve killed…
Spent ages figuring out why split DNS wasn't working through @Tailscale, only to learn it doesn't drop a route when the device goes offline. One device advertises a /24, another a /16. Shut down the /24 one and its route still wins because it's more specific, so it all times out.
I’ve been in @CompleteSkeptic's beta for @typesafeai, and I've written a browser extension for it that supports Chrome, Safari, and Firefox on both mobile and desktop.
Here's a quick demo. I also have a blog post in the replies with my thoughts and general experience with Jev!

a good reminder that just because someone states their opinion with intense conviction, does not make it fact. they can come back a year later and state the absolute opposite view with the same conviction.

I’m convinced that a large % of programmers don’t actually like computers.
As a side effect, are also perfectly happy to throw away their reasoning to a model as soon as they can.
I don’t get it, at ALL. Don’t you *LIKE* understanding the magic of the machine?
You do realize hand-programming (I hate that I even have to specify hand now) is fun…right?
