Earlier today in Normandy, 47 Commando Royal Marines made their way to the beach from a landing craft to begin a ‘yomp’ across the fields to their commemorative event in Port-en-Bassin to pay tribute to their forebears.

ALT 47 Commando Royal Marines make their way to the beach from a landing craft.
80 years since D-Day.
80 years since the largest seaborne invasion in history.
80 years since the heroic efforts of those who landed on the beaches of Normandy to liberate Europe from Nazi tyranny.

History was made on both sides of the Channel.
The UK and France celebrated 120 years of the Entente Cordiale and the close Defence alliance between the two nations with historic Guard Change ceremonies at both Buckingham Palace and the Elysée Palace in Paris. 🇬🇧🇫🇷
Many serving sailors, soldiers and aviators can trace their military heritage back to the D-Day beaches. 🇬🇧
As we mark 80 days until the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, Padre Robbie Boyle remembers his father.
