Go Charles !!!!
Today American Charles Porter shot a final round 61, the best round by 2, and finished 3rd on the @asiantourgolf
His story is one of best mostly unknown stories in golf, for those that don't know:
Charles was one of 7 children and although his dad worked two jobs, it often wasn't enough to make ends meet. The family was homeless at times, even spending a few nights on the street when Charles was young, before finding goverment subsidized housing.
But they always found a way to get Charles to the golf course. With the help of First Tee and Youth on Course Charles was able to find clubs and his parents found a way to provide the minimal green fee that the charities provided. They would drop Charles off at the golf course almost daily.
On top of the that Charles father developed Alzheimers before Charles turned 10 and was in assisted living by the time Charles turned 20. His father passed away a few years ago. His mother also battled breast cancer but was able to overcome it.
Charles also suffers from severe ADHD so school was tough, his short attempt at trying college didn't work out and he found a job out of High School at a golf course and worked on his game.
A story like this rarely ends successfully, it never ends with that kid being a pro golfer. Charles has defied those odds.
Money is still tight, recently a group of people in California (including an amazing member of our foundation board) helped Charles with money. It wasn't the first time. They also got him practice priveligeds at their course.
Today he made 63,000. Which is great, but unfortuntely doesn't go far in the pro golf world. (International taxes, then add entry fees to DP and KFT Q-schools, international travel and that money is gone in no time). But its a huge help.
Pretty awesome stuff.
I’m way behind on my Internet facts, but are we getting mad because a golf club cut down some trees in the DC area? It sounds like a good move. I don’t care who ordered it. Turf>trees . Golf clap. 👏
Nothing but facts here⬇️⬇️⬇️
Congratulations to Kyler Heath for winning the boys junior club championship today with a score of one under 70.

Interesting thread here wrt prioritizing capital spend at a club.
A club board identifies non-golf initiatives, advances them to a member vote, and works to secure approval.
On a perfect fall Saturday, the result:
• Patio sits empty
• 19th hole with college football on every screen has no viewers
• New tennis and pickleball facility remains largely unused
Meanwhile, the golf course is fully booked with 4+ hour rounds.
Member behavior reveals priorities—it’s not rocket science, yet the pattern continues.
Today’s our annual Presidents dinner. Past club Presidents gather to play a round of golf, and then have dinner.
Big news - MacKenzie member Michael Barbieri made an ace today on hole number 13. Congratulations Mike!
Congratulations to our 2026 Green Tee winners Johnny Dang and Paul Sheng (holding the white flags). Well played gentleman.
