St. Paul charges property owners quite a bit for buildings and not much at all for vacant land, a perverse disincentive, in the eyes of critics, to fill vacant lots. What if we flipped it? Could a "land value capture" tax be the panacea this city needs? Would new tax rules encourage you to build baby build, or get the heck out of dodge and simply not buy property at all here? twincities.com/2026/03/24/so…

This book is a wonderful introduction about how communities can evaluate and make choices about the transit they want. It's especially good at articulating the importance of understanding tradeoffs, because there are always tradeoffs to be made with limited resources.
Replying to @humantransit
What does it mean for transit to be useful? That’s what my book Human Transit is all about! 8/8. amazon.com/Human-Transit-Rev…
In 2026, Minneapolis had a budget that was 230% greater than Saint Paul, and yet Saint Paul had a higher property and sales tax burden for people.
We must rebuild our downtown, and build more housing to allow our budget to grow without it being on the backs of our residents.
St. Paul has a serious tax problem and it's making our longtime citizens want to leave this city. @kaohlyforstp this needs to change.

Long term, it'd be cool to see a 'Culdesac' development at Lafayette Park/ Crooks Haven connecting downtown/ railroad island/ mt airy- its mostly parking/ warehouse/ city/ county offices right now.
why is kaoly her complaining that republicans are blocking independent investigations into shootings by feds in minnesota, while she as st paul mayor is blocking an independent investigation into a police response that injured journalists and protestors?

This is the same mayor who told the police chief not to come to a community forum that was attended by every city councilmember about this event (Besides one on maternity leave).
We need genuine accountability, not empty words of support.
The East Side will remember this.
st. paul mayor kaohly her has denied an independent probe into the federal immigration operation back in november on rose ave that used force and left 3 journalists injured, georgia fort reports

Saint Paulice spent years rebuilding goodwill and trust. In a few months they have completely squandered it.
From violent support of ICE in east side, to now this abysmal Facebook post whining about masks. Vile.
I really thought we did things better here. Naive of me.

There's no reason a street that has a bus route on it in Minneapolis or Saint Paul should have two car lanes in the same direction on it, but no bus lanes.

Georgia Fort has been on the ground every day. And she’s being punished for doing her job as a journalist. Sound familiar???
So should we have a camera in your car that fines you if you, or just puts on the hazards and slowly decelerates you as soon as you touch your phone.
Because it's honestly like 50% of drivers who are on their phone and drive at some point and we can't just be okay with this.
In Men's Basketball, St Thomas and North Dakota State are a combined 14-1 in conference play with the only loss St Thomas to NDSU in Fargo.
They play again in Saint Paul on Feb 26th!
College Sports is so much better when conferences are regional and everyone plays each other!

Get ready for a Democratic Party influencer blitz to convince you that replacing Greg Bovino with Tom Homan is a huge win you should be grateful for.
Meanwhile here’s Tom Homan:
