In a matter of months rather than years, @EPB_Chattanooga built a dedicated quantum applications team with IonQ's support. Its Quantum Computing Fellows have now published three papers using an IonQ Forte Enterprise quantum computer. Their focus is distribution network reconfiguration (DNR) and the process of deciding which switches to open and close as assets are added, removed, or knocked offline. The aim is to keep power flowing with the least loss. Yet, the number of possible layouts explodes as the grid grows, and every valid layout has to stay radial, with no loops. In this simplified animation, an IonQ Forte system samples promising candidate layouts. A classical solver starts from those candidates and converges sooner, reaching a near-optimal layout in less solver time. Quantum and classical computing each do what they do best. We're continuing this work with EPB using insights from its 600-square-mile distribution system. Read how one utility is co-innovating with IonQ to tackle power grid complexity: lnkd.in/e6KC_kqz Hear from EPB CEO Janet Rehberg, EPB President, Strategic Initiatives Robert Long, and community leaders on what this quantum platform means for the region. 🎥 lnkd.in/ect-iAEw #QuantumComputing #HybridQuantum #GridModernization #Utilities #EnergyInnovation

ETEBA’s BOT Conference in Knoxville offers businesses, contractors, and partners an excellent venue to discuss the opportunities and challenges shaping America’s energy, security, and scientific future. The innovations and federal and private investments around Oak Ridge are driving our nation’s progress in nuclear power, nuclear deterrence, and environmental cleanup. I was grateful to deliver the keynote, and to the businesses and people in East Tennessee who help make this a reality every day.

American nuclear innovation is central to global energy security. Through partnerships with Japan and other free nations, we are investing in critical energy infrastructure and supply chains so our adversaries cannot hold us hostage. The US-Japan alliance has never been stronger, and through our deep business and industrial relationships, the nuclear renaissance we are building together will safeguard our sovereignty, our shared prosperity, and power communities and new industries worldwide.
