Last week I spoke to Noland Arbaugh @ModdedQuad about his journey & his views on a BCI future.
Then we drew some lines together on a shared canvas: him controlling the cursor using his thoughts (via @neuralink), and me - the old school way, using a computer trackpad.
Chinese brain-computer interface companies have raised billions of yuan in 2026, much of it alongside state-backed funds.
At least four Chinese BCI companies are working towards stock market listings.
The linked InsideBCI tracker lists the 2026 financing rounds and listing steps (as of 9 November 2026).
Cathie Wood's ARK Invest has officially filed a preliminary prospectus with the SEC to launch the ARK Brain Computer Interfaces & Surgical Robotics ETF.
Could this be retail's ETF route into Neuralink?
The new filing lets the ETF own private stakes. So it very well could be.
ARK already holds Neuralink in its Venture Fund, but unlike an ETF, it doesn't trade daily.
Neuralink is not a confirmed holding yet. Given Cathie's big bets on Musk's companies I would assume it will be.

Interesting. Neuralink’s UAE-PRIME trial also runs at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. Now Precision is partnering with them with support from the Department of Health Abu Dhabi.
Also Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala is already a Precision investor.

Flying drones with non-invasive BCI, built for defence buyers.
Defence start-up NeuroDoctrine, led by neuroscientist Zied Tayeb, flew three small commercial drones with a non-invasive headband reading brain signals at its Manchester launch in late September 2026.
Calibration takes about six hours per user.
The company is raising money and wants to sell its system to defence contractors. Its advisers include a former US Special Operations Command science and technology director and a former commander of NATO Allied Land Command.

Four days after I posted this, here’s what protecting BCI sovereignty looks like in practice. @SecScottBessent's @USTreasury just announced it wants to ban new US private investment in Chinese BCI companies. Implants, EEG headsets, software, the lot.
The fine is $250k or twice the size of the deal (whichever is greater). So if a US person or entity invests $10m in a Chinese BCI startup, they risk up to a $20m fine.
The US seems to be winning AI sovereignty. But China is moving super fast on BCI sovereignty, with a comprehensive state-backed industrial plan. Shanghai alone has one approved brain implant and five more in the pipeline.
There's nowhere near enough public conversation about this in the West, and Western media barely covers it

Coherence is using BCIs to read the electrical signals of brain tumours, and eventually treat them. The company is building a system to watch cancer in real time, then feed the data into systems that can treat the disease.

Update: The UN’s neurotechnology report has now been formally presented to the General Assembly’s Third Committee by Claudia Fuentes Julio, the UN’s top human rights official in New York.
Countries have until 4 November to table human rights resolutions, with Committee votes scheduled for 10 to 20 November.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres wants states to ban forced or coercive use of neurotech in police stations, courts and prisons.
Any “consent” has to clear the highest bar. He also wants neural data treated as highly sensitive personal data, with limits on selling and reusing it.
The recommendations however are not binding
