Prices keep fluctuating, and crossing closures prevent flour and other essential supplies from entering in the quantities people need. For families already struggling to eat, every increase puts bread further out of reach.
Our bakery helps families bring bread back to their children without having to choose which other necessity to go without. But keeping it running means meeting the rising and unpredictable cost of supplies.

When the Rain Knocks on Our Roof

Tonight, the rain knocked on our roof.
I wish I could say we opened the door,
but our roof is full of holes,
holes larger than the doors we once had.
So the rain came in...
I collect its drops in whatever I can find:
a bowl, a bucket, an old container.
Perhaps tomorrow
I will need them for something else.
I wonder what the clouds know about us.
Do they know our address has changed
more times than we can remember?
Do they know we have become experts
at packing entire lives into a few bags?
I want my children to grow up
believing that rain smells of earth,
not fear.
But, dear world,
if you ever wonder what Gaza needs,
it does not need another beautiful speech
about our resilience.
It needs a roof that does not leak.
A blanket that stays dry.
A night when a mother does not have to wake up
to move her children away from the rain.
And perhaps, one day,
when it rains in Gaza,
children will run outside to play in it,
instead of searching for somewhere
to hide.
