Make for thyself a definition or description of the thing which is presented to thee so as to see distinctly what kind of a thing it is, in its substance, in its nudity, in its complete entirety, and tell thyself its proper name, and the names of which it has been compounded, and into which it will be resolved. For nothing is so productive of elevation of mind as to be able to examine methodically and truly every object which is presented to thee in life, and always to look at things so as to see at the same time what kind of universe this is, and what kind of use everything performs in it, and what value everything has with reference to the whole, and what with reference to man, who is a citizen of the highest city, of which all other cities are like families; what each thing is and what it is composed, and how long it is the nature of this thing to endure

Meh, fairly lazy reporting (yes I know you didn't write it Tom). Does not mention the fact that PA has a cap on the # of licenses one company can hold, yet doesn't even enforce it (as opposed to MD+MA+etc which do). Also should mention the reason why independent standalone operators are now able to become vertically integrated...it's pretty relevant to the article's topic. Legislators+lobbyists sold the state's future out to out-of-state companies; the same people who are responsible for now completely botching the adult use lobbying process. I am confident that if the industry had a halfway decent PA resident founder presence a la OH, we would've had AU years ago.

Someone made a site that tracks what people are talking about at public city council meetings across the US. The only thing discussed more than data centers? Pickleball courts.

I'm a Board Certified anesthesiologist and have been in practice for 24 years. I just learned that the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where I trained has launched a program to increase flu vaccine uptake among children by vaccinating them while under anesthesia. The program is called "Close your Eyes. We'll Immunize" This is stunningly irresponsible. Here's why: Anesthetists are extremely risk avoidant and endeavor to minimize patient exposure to anything which carries potential side effects. This is particularly true of pediatric patients who very often have never been exposed to anesthetic medications. We simply cannot know how an individual child will respond to these drugs for the first time. Every single medication we administer during an operation can potentially trigger untoward or allergic responses. When this occurs our primary responsibility is to stabilize the patient. Our secondary responsibility is to identify the offending agent. There is absolutely no justification of introducing another agent, in this case a flu vaccine, which carries a risk of harm and contributes nothing to the success of the operation. Some of the more common side effects of flu vaccines are fever (11-16%) and less commonly, a rash (1%). There is also an non-zero risk of severe allergic reactions and high-grade fevers which can develop over the course of minutes. What if a child under anesthesia receives a vaccine and develops a rash and/or fever? Is it from the antibiotic that the surgeon requested? Is it from the narcotic? The anxiolytic? The barbiturate? Anesthetic gases can also (rarely) trigger a life threatening response called Malignant Hyperthermia which commonly presents as a high fever. Without subsequent testing we cannot know which agent was responsible. Most commonly the testing is never done and the child’s record will forever reflect the possibility that some or all of the drugs which were used are responsible for their reaction. This makes future anesthetic care significantly more challenging and will require the use of alternatives which may not be necessary. Advocating for a flu vaccine while a child is anesthetized reflects the pervasive yet inaccurate attitude among the medical establishment that vaccines are perfectly safe. I simply cannot believe that my mentors would have ever supported this initiative when I was a resident there. Close your eyes indeed.

Data on 35,000+ adults: the more cannabis you’ve used in life, the bigger your hippocampus and the better your brain works after 40! People who had ever used cannabis tended to have larger brain volume in key areas that are full of natural cannabis-like receptors (especially the hippocampus, amygdala, caudate, and putamen – these areas are important for memory, emotions, learning, and movement). The more cannabis someone had used in their lifetime, the larger these brain areas were and the better they performed on tests of learning, processing speed, and short-term memory. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/4137…

U.S. HOME PRICES REFUSE TO BUDGE Redfin reports home prices rose 0.25% in September, with annual growth accelerating to 3.8%, the fastest since June 2025. Prices climbed in 34 of 50 major metros, led by Philadelphia (+1.9%), while Fort Worth (-0.9%) saw the steepest decline. The key takeaway: Buyers have more negotiating power, but sellers aren't blinking. Home prices keep rising.

PA THC products: no age limit. Candy-style packaging. No safeguards. My PA Hemp and Cannabinoid Act would require buyers to be 21+, establish testing & labeling standards, & prohibit marketing & packaging designed to appeal to children. We need clear rules that protect kids.
