LASUCOM was officially commissioned on 9 February 1999 by the then Lagos State Military Administrator, Colonel Mohammed Buba Marwa.
The groundwork began as far back as 1987, when LASU's founding Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folabi Olumide, established an advisory board to work towards setting up the college. Prof. Fatiu Akesode revived the project in 1997 & secured Marwa's approval, two years before its commissioning.

Besides, if you are talking about educational legacies, GEJ established 14 Federal universities, 125 Almajiri schools, 25 specialised girls' schools, among others.
