𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗘𝗧 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗥𝗗 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝟬𝟬𝟭 | Warrick Dunn | Football Football made @WarrickDunn famous. What he chose to carry beyond football tells us far more about who he is. Dunn was 18 when his mother, Baton Rouge police officer Betty Smothers, was ambushed and killed while working an off-duty security assignment. As the oldest of six children, he became head of the household. With help from his grandmother, he helped care for his five younger siblings. Four years later, as an NFL rookie, Dunn created Homes for the Holidays. It was inspired by his mother’s dream of owning a home. Through @WDCharities, the program has now supported 252 single-parent families by furnishing their homes and providing down-payment assistance. Warrick Dunn did not use success to outrun his story. He carried his mother’s dream forward and opened the door for hundreds of families behind him. Some legacies are measured in yards. Others are measured in front doors opened. Warrick Dunn’s is both.
