For 100 years, the Weekly Epidemiological Record (WER) has documented the evolving story of global public health, one week at a time.
First published in April 1926 by the Health Office of the League of Nations, the WER began as a simple bulletin: telegraphed reports tracking the spread of five notifiable diseases – cholera, plague, smallpox, yellow fever and typhus.
The publication was entrusted to the @WHO when the Organization was established in 1948.
Today, on its 100th anniversary, the WER is becoming a digital publication, and continues to provide timely epidemiological information: bit.ly/4au2mBj

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Deputy Executive Secretary for Regional Integration, @AngeleMakombo on 30 June 2026 addressed the Joint Meeting of Senior Treasury and Health Officials where she stressed the need for strengthening coordination in addressing the region's health financing priorities.
This meeting was convened in preparation of the Joint Meeting of Ministers of Finance and Health to be held on 2nd and 3rd July 2026.
"By bringing your two sectors together, we are taking an important step towards strengthening coordination in addressing the region's health financing priorities," she said, adding that, "as global development financing continues to dwindle, it is becoming increasingly important that we strengthen domestic investment in health".
The SADC Deputy Executive Secretary added that, investing in resilient health systems reduces the economic burden of disease, especially on the most vulnerable households and individuals; and contributes to a healthier and more productive workforce.

At #ICPPA2026, I called for greater urgency, investment and action to prevent NCDs and expand access to quality care for those living with them.

Every blood donation reflects the essence of our common humanity, solidarity, compassion and care for one another. It gives more than a medical resource. It gives hope, dignity and the promise of a healthier future for all.
Today, we pay tribute to all voluntary, unpaid blood donors. Your generosity saves lives and strengthens communities.
One drop of humanity can save a life.

At #WHA79, @Pandemic_Fund’s Exec. Head @PriyaBasu2017 joined a side event hosted by @UNmigration and @ifrc to discuss a critical shift for pandemic preparedness: designing systems for how people move—not just where they live.
Preparedness strategies built around geography alone leave gaps. Surveillance systems that don’t reflect human mobility create system vulnerabilities that outbreaks can exploit. Resilient #PPR starts with preparedness across borders.
